A former betting shop which has been left empty for more than five years is to be turned into two one-bedroom flats with space for retail on the ground floor.

I hope it doesn't happen near me. I park at the back of one and walk through
to reach a shopping precinct, saves me 50 yards.

Cinemas went, then their successors bingo halls went, we all know the day of the High Street bookie is long gone and this can only be the start of a deluge.

The one in Westfield Stratford City ought to go too. No betting crack cocaine provider should be in such prominent public view.

In my local baldies shop this morning, 9am for about an hour, as usual
Used to be a craic with the lads all giving their naps for the day, people coming and going
Counted 5 other customers in the hour I was there

Some  shops I use on my travels are reasonably busy, but generally not
Most shops can't last 5 years, imo

Reg.
The shop went through a quiet time for a couple of months, not know the shop is booming  again yesterday was very very busy plenty of bets and plenty of large bets the fobts were busy the ssbts were busy and the shop took over a grand on the virtual.Shop lost on the day not helped by a bet of 250 at 9/2 on a first goal scorer for player and a team i have never heard of.
Still some good shops left.
Ronnie.

Glad to hear it Ronnie, I don't like seeing shops closing

As I said, there's a real mixture of shops I go in
I tend to use a baldy shop if I can, and seen a few of those close when the lease comes up and they don't want to make a commitment for 5 years or so

A few of them only surviving because of the machines some staff tell me

You took a grand on virtual racing? Blimey

Commercial property changes use all the time, it's the nature of the business. How many former pubs & banks are now something else?

Sorry  for the confusion  the grand  on the virtual  was on the day and not one bet.

Ronnie, no confusion here
I was surprised you took a grand in total on the day on virtuals

But I suppose 5s,10s and 20s all mount up
I'm assuming that's the sort of virtual bets? People just passing time

The shop has a punter  who will regular  bet a money  a day 25 bets of about   a score a slip on the virtual   not the type  of punter  you would expect to play  the virtual  a retired accountant  living  in the posher  part of Darlo
Happy New year.

There are only three kinds of accountants.
Those who can count and those who can't.
