Is Earps going to win it for saving that penalty? only bit I saw but she was 2 yards off her line and moved well before the kick and a 7 y o would have put more power in the shot,if that had been the mans game it would have been sure to have been either retaken of if not plenty of comment over it,but not a squeak of course.

If I was voting it would not be Dettori. There are better more deserving candidates than Mr Dettori.

Mary Earps
The 30-year-old Manchester United and England goalkeeper helped the Lionesses reach the World Cup final in Australia in August. Spain ran out 1-0 winners to prevent England adding to their European crown, but Earps, who saved a penalty in the final and kept three clean sheets during the tournament, was awarded the Golden Glove. Stuart Broad The second-highest England Test wicket-taker with 604 scalps, 37-year-old Broad announced his retirement on July 29 on the penultimate day of the fifth and final Ashes Test against Australia at the Oval. He signed off in dramatic fashion, hitting a six off his final ball faced and taking a wicket with his final delivery to secure a win that resulted in the series being drawn, with Australia retaining the Ashes. Frankie Dettori The three-time British flat racing champion jockey triumphed in two British classics this year, winning the 2000 Guineas on Chaldean and the Oaks on Soul Sister. Milan-born Dettori, 52, announced in December 2022 that he would retire after 2023 but in October he revealed plans to move to California and continue to race in the United States and on the international circuit. Katarina Johnson-Thompson The Liverpool-born heptathlete came back from injury to win her second world title in Budapest this year. She claimed her first world crown in Doha in 2019. Her build-up to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics was undermined by an Achilles injury and it flared up during the 200 metres, forcing her to pull out. The 30-year-old bounced back with a Commonwealth Games title in Birmingham last year and then conquered the world again in Hungary. Rory McIlroy The Northern Irishman was Europe’s top-scorer, winning four out of five matches, as the team bounced back from their heaviest defeat to the United States in the 2021 to triumph in this year’s Ryder Cup – the fifth time he has won the event. Four-time major champion McIlroy, 34, also registered 13 top-10 finishes on the PGA Tour in 2023, won the Scottish Open, retained the Race to Dubai and spent time in the world number one spot. Alfie Hewett World number one wheelchair tennis player Hewett this year was singles champion at both the Australian Open and US Open and runner-up in the French Open and Wimbledon tournaments, while in doubles, he claimed three out of the grand slam titles alongside Gordon Reid. The 26-year-old also helped Great Britain win the World Team Cup. |

Earps favourite? What did England women do this year, I must've missed it?
McIlroy? I missed have missed him getting that 5th major after the 9 year wait. Broad? Great cricketer, did we win the Ashes back then? Hewitt? Who? At least Dettori won a few races. Not a fan though. Shocking list. I hope Katarina Johnson-Thompson wins it. |

Given he was voted out first in the jungle, perhaps Ann stokells might of stood a better chance representing jockeys.

Cheers Acey, i've heard of 4 of them, expect Frankie will win the Lifetime achievement award, if not him i'd like to see Stuart Broad win it, a total farce if that gunslingers ancestor wins it.

Agree with swifty , dreadful event and only an odds market keeping the forum remotely interested.
Last time i watched as a youngster was when Red Rum and Tommy Stack had a conversation , embarrassing confession for me. Only heard of 3 as well , googled Earps , the athlete and Hewitt who ? |

Another dreadful mountain of dross from the BBC……just think of the hosts, but before you eat…..

The competition should have been canned years ago, it's a cringefest of mediocrity.
If Mary Earps was sitting opposite me on a train I wouldn't have the foggiest who she was. Although he's not even in the line up at least Ronnie O'Sullivan is a genuine champion over many years and a worthy contender anyway. |
|
By:
I can only assume Earps is favourite because Nike didn't sell goalkeeper shirts.
|
|
By:
If there wasn't any odds on the event then there wouldn't be a thread though tbf , no interest in the event itself and this is a betting forum.

I think Mr Dettori would be the most undeserving winner, why? Apart from his retirement for race riding (oops! he changed his mind...he's riding in America) what has he done to be listed for this award? I'm not even suggesting his dalliance with narcotic, but achievement.

When McCoy won,a relative just said to me as a matter of fact,it’s not really a sport.
I was crushed, but that is how some see racing. What is a sport. Some say,if you need different foot wear to compete. |
|
By:
Given the list of winners,I think dettorri has done enough to win it,not this year, but at some point.
|

What is a sport.
Some say,if you need different foot wear to compete. never heard anyone define a 'sport' by that qualificiation before! |
|
By:
It's subjective really mate and there's been debates surrounding Darts & Snooker for years.
The Council of Europe charter on sport uses the following definition: "Sport means all forms of physical activity, which through casual or organised participation, aim at expressing or improving physical fitness and mental well-being, forming social relationships or obtaining results in competition at all levels". |
|
By:
Basically,if you have to bend down to take your shoes off, you’re sporty.

Some say anything increased heart rate.
Mind you a few jockeys might fall foul on this ,given the effort they put in sometimes. |

Horseracing is a spectator sport, and a leisure activity. Unless one is a jockey horsearacing is not classed as a sport.
|
|
By:
If a jockey, what difference do you do ,compared to chasers off the chase tv program.
They study all day to answer quiz questions, are dedicated to their profession etc etc.they might keep fit at the gym,to increase mind power. Is being a quizzer a sport. |
|
By:
The best classification of a sport I ve heard is.
If you need equipment to partake. |
