Hi Guys does anyone have any Chaseform books, or similar from the late 70's maybe early 80's? I'm trying to find the date when a horse called Runner On The Roof, trained by John Spearing and ridden by James Evans won a  hurdle race at Leicester. I've gone through various online newspaper archives without success, any help greatly appreciated

Struggled to find this horse - in 1973 to 1979 Chaseforms - so took to -  'Horses in Training' Annuals

Horse is Listed as a 4-yr-old in 1979 .... But  is Not Listed with John Spearing in 1980

Later found that the Mare went to - R H York - at Cobham in 1980.... But she Never ran on 1980/81 Season

Maybe Injured - or went to be covered - Her Sire was - Clear Run - and Dam - Natalane.

So guessing that she only ran for John Spearing for just  one season - in 1979....

For some reason - I cannot find a 1979 Chaseform - I must have had it out for something else - and put it back in a different box - and I ain't going looking for it right now.  Happy

Ged will, no doubt, find the Leicester race Result in 1979  - via his Times Newspaper Search facility.

^ add -  If you were the Owner ... The Owners Listed for Jihn Spearing in 1979, were ...

Mrs R Beverley - J W Aitkens - W E Jones - Mrs W E Jones - G Thomas - Norman G Stephens - E Warren - F and G Chamberlain -  Woolford - E Woolford - Alun Corfield - G Goodman - E Bartlett - K Frost - Mrs S D Spearing.

As the Owners are not Listed in Alphabetical Order - and there are 15 of them - and ...

- as there are 15 Horses Listed, too  .... Could it be that the two Lists correspond ?  Happy

many thanks for your replies and the results of your searches Onlooker, much appreciated. Yes I've been searching The Times but it jumps from 1978 to 1980 by which time she had joined R York so I think you're right about 1979

Thanks very much Shalimah, that's excellent. I've just had a quick look at the British Newspaper Archive site, presumably you can do an initial search for free then it becomes payable if you want more info?

i think you get three free searches before you decide if its what you want to subscribe to.
there are 72 million pages mostly from obscure regional papers but if you are after racing results the daily mirror and sunday mirror are the best bet.
