Have a heart OP. She can only afford to put one bar on her electric fire during cold weather and she has to regularly seek out the BOGOF deals at her local Spar shop. Just scrapping by she is! Poor old dear.

Must admit had to laugh when I saw this on the racing post site. Sir Mark probably charges her £2 million a year so have a heart lads.

Why do the Racing Post print this crap. Why didn't the reporter Kitty Trice say "hang on Miss Raising , you are worth £13billion, 7th on The Sunday  Times Rich List, so you are going to get laughed out talking about trying to make ends meet.Inherited it all from Daddy, has never worked, as previous post mentioned. Have no time at all for the woman , she is bonkers, loves in a bubble.
Same with Roger Varian saying it's a struggle, oh please...just say nothing !

because journalists/presenters/pundits constantly suck up to jockeys/trainers/owners and virtually never question any of them in any sort of forensic manner...

i've been banging on about this for ages and if anything it's getting worse...

the constatnt sucking up is hideous and broadcasters/newspaper owners clearly don't understand what their viewers/readers want...

i've not read this article but having listened to Kirsten Rausing many times throughout the years i can imagine exactly what it's like...

WE rely on journalists/presenters/pundits to ask the questions we would ask if we were in their position...

and day in day out they let us down dreadfully badly...

which is why i have zero respect for any of them quite frankly.
Report WHOKNOWSTHEBOWLER • November 16, 2023 8:51 AM GMT
Because, trainers, owners ignore reporters who even mildly question them. They love in their own bubble, so wealthy, they don't really give a damn about reporter's or the public. Look at Michael Stoute, he is revered, but is the most ignorant, obnoxious guy going.
Report HappyHibby • November 16, 2023 9:17 AM GMT
it's an easy cop out for journalists/presenters/pundits to say 'well if we ask dodgy questions they won't speak to us again'...

well you won't know unless you ask will you ?

shameful really.
Report Ramruma • November 16, 2023 10:10 AM GMT
Oh FFS. Rausing means she is trying to run her racing & breeding on commercial lines, not that she has to wait for Tesco to reduce their sandwiches at the end of each day.
Report Ramruma • November 16, 2023 10:14 AM GMT
A better question would be why Rausing sends horses to Sir Mark. She wants Group class horses. He sees a 2-year-old who can win pattern races and wants to win half a dozen handicaps as its rating slowly rises from 56 to 106.
Report HappyHibby • November 16, 2023 10:16 AM GMT
never been a fam of Prescott (despite the media slobbering all over him at every opportunity) but he did win an Arc for her tbf.
Report sageform • November 16, 2023 11:35 AM GMT
Sir Mark has recognised real talent when he gets it and treats them much differently to the run of the mill late maturing stayers. Pivotal started in 2yo maidens but made his 3yo debut in the Kings Stand and won it beating Mind Games and Royal Applause among others.

What most people do not understand about rich people is that they know how to manage their money and that means having a budget for things like racing. I know Ms. Rausing may not need to but in my experience prosperity is much more about what you spend than what you earn. I was always self employed or running my own small farming business and income tended to be outside our control so profit was mainly influenced by what you spent.
Report HappyHibby • November 16, 2023 11:54 AM GMT
most folk don't like very rich people bleating about how difficult it is to fund their horse racing empire sageform...

i'm more interested in the price of food in the shops having increased ridiculously over the last couple of years as opposed to some biddy bleating on about how hard she is finding it to fund her hobby.

if she was looking for sympathy she certainly ain't going to get it from me...

journalists/presenters/pundits will take a different view on it tho i'm sure.

Barely worth commenting on, hibby. I suppose some people might admire her for some reason or other though.
Report truehoncho • November 16, 2023 12:31 PM GMT
It takes the RP to print nonsense like that. To suggest people like her have to budget is an insult to the vast majority. The idea that someone with billions has to manage their money well is codswallop. She could spend and spend and spend and spend forever and never scratch the surface of the returns from the most modest investment.

only thing i can think of is at least by having horses she creates employment for folk...

not much apart from that tho...

So would most people like to see a socialist regime confiscate most of her assets? If there were no wealthy people there would be a very different world. Some things might be better but much would be worse.

I don't disagree Sage. I just think saying she works on a budget is moronic. I quite like her by the way.

She may well stick to a budget of (say £2 million a year). Having loads of money does not change your instinct to look after it. I make or lose £500 a day on the Stock Market but still try to stick to a £1 per day betting budget. On a loss of £270 so far this year. It is a discipline and nothing to do with affordability.
Report truehoncho • November 16, 2023 12:53 PM GMT
In fairness Happy, it was probably the RP reporting and not her. She's a really nice lady and wouldn't have meant it the way it came across. The RP should have reported differently.

Last year she donated £400k to Addenbrooke's hospital for a scanner. The article continued : Rausing created the charitable Alborada Trust, named after her dual Champion Stakes-winning filly who was crowned World Champion three-year-old in 1998.

The trust, founded in 2001, has so far donated more than £26.6million to causes worldwide.

Trust director Jeremy Richardson said of the latest donation: "Having previously supported several 3D imaging projects at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, the trust was pleased to provide funding for the Cone Beam CT scanner, reducing surgery times by up to 60 per cent for some patients and sparing the need for patients to travel to other hospitals for treatment.

doesn't mean she can bleat away till her heart is content and expect nobody to feel slightly agitated tbh.

She's not alone is she when it comes to telling us how tough life is for the breeders?

Isn't it Phillipa Cooper who complains about how expensive it is to send one's mares to the likes of Dubawi?

And recently there was an RP interview with Anthony Oppenheimer, who told us he runs his breeding operation very much like a business and sometimes has to sell his colts to make ends meet. But try not to worry too much for him as it looks like Cracksman is going to earn him a few quid following the success of Ace Impact.

So 1.2m per year? The financial equivalent of me donating a score per year!
