Two years ago, Brassneck posted a little calculation which changed the way I bet. It coincided with my retirement and getting used to life without a decent income. Anyways .. Brasso reckoned if you start with a tenner and have a winning bet 1/10 shot once a week in two years you'll have £160,000. OK that's not going to happen, not to me anyway, but it got me thinking about betting 'certainties' and trying to build up to a reasonable sum before withdrawing say .. £100. In those two years, I am actually in front, not by much but I don't lose every year now.
My bets are usually strong favourites on the horses just to place and football teams not to get beaten. Works for me, a lot of the excitement / engagement / absorbing study has gone but I'm not losing ££ anymore. Y'day I started the day with £19.00 and finished with £21.50.

Went to Wincanton. Laid Rubaud, because the G Moore second fav looked very fit. Rubaud sluiced up. Got it back by laying Lime Avenue, on account of the horse having been gifted the race when it won at the track last season, with Cobden getting a flyer. Also, Rolf Johnson, who does form and placing advisory for the owners, Highclere, had been banging on for the last two days about how the horse had been laid out by Nicholls for this Barber memorial race. These horses always get turned over when they let news of the plot filter all the way down to low-life like me.

Yes I had a good day at Sandown. Punter friendly results and the placepot paid a decent £125.79. The only blip was opposing the huge drifter in the second race, Le Patron. You could have got 7/1 at the off in a couple of places and it absolutely sluiced up.
