The Raceday Stewards enquired into possible interference in the closing stages of this race involving Clear Quartz, ridden by R.P. Whelan, placed second, Little Keilee, ridden by C.D. Hayes, placed fourth, Brown Eagle, ridden by W.J. Lee, placed sixth, Conversant, ridden by C.T. Keane, placed third, Angel On Fire, ridden by C.J. MacRedmond, placed fifth, and Kinda Tiny, ridden by M.W Hassett, placed first, where it appeared interference may have occurred. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. In his evidence R.P. Whelan stated that he received a bump from his right. C.D. Hayes stated that he had to check his mount off heels. W.J. Lee stated that he took a precautionary check. C.T. Keane stated that his mount got unbalanced inside the final furlong. C.J. MacRedmond stated that his mount got sandwiched in the last one hundred yards. M.W. Hassett stated that his mount dived left when she hit the front and that he had his whip in his left hand trying his best to keep her straight. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Raceday Stewards were of the opinion that while Kinda Tiny had caused interference, she did not improve her finishing position as a result of this interference so they made no alteration to the Judge’s placings. They were, however, of the opinion that M. W. Hassett, was in breach of Rule 214 in that he had ridden carelessly and having considered his record in this regard the Raceday Stewards suspended him for eight racedays.
