He is sometimes on a podcast called upping the ante, well worth a watch
By:
Upping the Ante returns to the Racing Post Youtube channel on Tuesday, 7th November, or in a week and a half.
By:
Are they any good at picking winners/value bets?
By:
Ex bookmaker, prof punter, gets info and only backs non handicaps.
By:
Not sure about Flooring Porter though made it one of better bets today, shows we can all get it wrong
By:
Ok.. I'll listen to the podcasts
thanks |
By:
He is quite a funny guy, always found the podcast entertaining
By:
I don’t rate the guy…..
By:
He did the betting people thing if you're keen...
By:
@ Formoftheaces
based on.... ? His opinion cannot be great if he completely wrote off Flooring Porter on chasing debut and now is 10/1 to win at the festival. I think the best opportunity for a classy hurdler is to win on his chase debut... they mightn't do much else after. This must be the opportunity to mine his selections!! |
By:
Just like the rest of us since the game began……opinions…nothing else
Pricewise used to be the risen look now….ffs The all come and go….. |
By:
People ‘tip’ golf and cricket ffs……

I don't mind so much people tipping other sports...
But call out the good players before they become famous. Who is the next Sachin Tendulkar, Roger Federer, Wayne Grezty, Stephen Hendry amongst the current under 12's? |
By:
Never be another Gretzky for me , Sydney Crosby & Connor McDavid have excelled but Gretzky will always be the daddy

By:
He's always bigging up his selections. I hope he's betting with his own money otherwise karma will catch up with him sooner rather than later.
By:
was against FP @ odds on & said evens was about its price
By:
lots of cromwell donoghue pink button action you are going to lose imo
By:
He often naps a Mullins/Townend odds on fav in a novice hurdle and they often lose.
I no longer read him |
By:
He’s pretty good, knows a lot. He said at last years festival,Nichols wouldn’t have more than 1 winner,he had 2 so was only out by 1.he knows his onions, plus entertaining.always has winners.
By:
I could have told you that about Nicholls, he wins very little at the festival nowadays
By:
So he was only wrong about Nicholls by 100%?
By:
Any other podcasts worth listening to?
I've not listened to "upping the ante" yet,,, |
By:
I think it is impossible to judge these "pundits" that you see on YouTube or racing channels/papers.
They have to pick horses for Cheltenham months in advance or the big races shown on terrestrial TV. Most of us know it is impossible to have an opinion on every race, so will only specialise in a certain division of racing. As entertainment value, Jonny is right up there. Does not take himself seriously and sees it for what it is. |
By:
Mum was mortified when i told her i was going to watch "Upping the Ante".
By:
just about legal..quite common up in the Black isle..

Today's Paddy Power NH season preview podcast has Johnny Dineen along with Ruby Walsh and Frank Hickey.

Gavin lynch was worth a listen.
Calvin’s is ok Road to chelt always good. There are some shockers.they drone on and seem to be doing it from their bedroom. A lot of jumps fans, chelt fans, will listen to anything anyway,so even the shockers are worth listening to. |
By:
Do they do money back if tipping a loser? These charlatans are voicing for their paymasters ie the bookies.
By:
dineen has strong opinions but he never specifies wht price he is laying or backing
did he lay porter at 6/4? or the nicholls thing he was dead against that also won. if so, hes had a bad day aside from that hes ok and at least hes there to look foolish, as he frequently does |
By:
usual bollox from unbearable321
you think dineen is paid to give out losers? |
By:
They are employed to stimulate interest,to offer a view.what else can they do.say nothing,it would be a bit boring if no one commented on a race for fear of tipping a loser.
By:
Mitolo.
All about opinion I took 2 on laid flying porter and the one of Nicholls for more than I would normally do thought I would have to lay evens and 6/4 ending up laying 13/8 and 5/2.thought to myself how on earth did I lay them prices. |
By:
So true Mitolo.
The lad just waffles b@ll@x continuously. |
By:
all about opinions indeed ronald. one of me fave cliches
fazackerley. i was looking to be against both meself but the prices i had to lay were simply too big, so i let them go. unusual for a mug like me. but its all about choc ices |
By:
Here's a question, if the prices became too big to lay for any individual do they then by definition automatically become backs or is there a little space, like no mans land before they reach the back price?
By:
good q
im too opinionated to do that. i wont back certain horses no matter what, porter being one. in theory, it was 1/2 prob is if something goes for a ball of chalk you think its not off or something is wrong and when it wins you are slapping your forehead. coragh rambler on sat was one on sat. i place laid it too big but got away with it |
