Not possible on a Sportsbook because you will very quickly get limited/banned if you consistently take +ev. On a free betting exchange like Betfair it's very hard but absolutely possible to consistently beat the 2% commission.

You need an edge over the market. There numerous possible ways to get an edge, but some obvious examples would be; faster pics, better pics, specialist software, insider knowledge, expert-level skill etc

Funny that jamee1's list of edges only the last "expert-level skill" relates to knowing what you are doing. That's the sad part. The money flows to those with no skill or judgement but unfair or possibly illegal advantages. If your pictures are 5 seconds ahead, you don't need to know what you are doing.

i think a person would have to treat gambling as a full time job to make it a success.its not a get rich quick business.
