Did you see what they were betting to at Newmarket 120% and more every race who is going to go racing when the greedy bookmakers are betting to those margins?

Shopping around in the Ring there were some some punter friendly prices being offered jim. Will you be attending Future Champions Day ?

Margins have increased on all sports in all markets.  Low margin operators have long since exited the UK.  Mainly thanks to admin costs in AC's and fear of potential fines.  I used to hedge certain bets with bookies at close to fair value.  Helped keep the accounts open too.  But now the prices are just too bad across the board.

I’ve no doubt that was the case democrat as the person who started this thread asking why would anyone go racing can’t be bothered to reply to my question I can only presume he isn’t aware of the fact that the 525 race at wetherby on 17 th March 2020 was the last race the sp was taken from the racecourse, the new system allows the online firms to return there own.

Regarding future champions day democrat I won’t be going I am on the weekends either side of that fixture going to ascot so may well see you there, hopefully go to the craven in the spring I am one of the few who like the rowley mile.

Yes the Rowley Mile is not to everybody's taste. Ok see you Champions Day perhaps - Newmarket's loss was Ascot's gain SadSad

I have just seen your question, Jim

They put the margins up on the T.V screen when they put the prices up every race was 20% and over.
Report jimnast October 4, 2023 11:47 AM BST
Thanks for the reply seaside

As posted above the last race where racecourse prices were included in the sp or the show prices was the 525 at wetherby on March 20th 2020 the online are allowed to bet as they wish and return there own prices ,it was only meant to be during the pandemic but it appears they got the taste for it and wanted to keep hold of that privilege.

As democrat pointed out there were punter friendly prices in the ring.

Industry SPs are examples of clear conflict of interests. One personal experience at Yarmouth - Buick going for a four timer; the horse wins; last price displayed in general oncourse 9/2. SP return 100/30. Reliable information related to me a few weeks back - 2 runner race - general oncourse betting at time of the off 14/1 and 1/25. The outsider wins. SP return 9/1 !!!. Returns on horses that are also-rans tend to be inflated to appear more favourable than the oncourse show. One outcome could be attendances at race meetings increase to take advantage of better prices but the issue needs to be resolved. Office of Fair Trading take note.

Democrat there has been two 2 runner races where they both  went of at 11/10 on the runner up was returned 6/5 on to wipe out the unnamed favourite multiple bets.

There must be a word for it jimnast and it would not be very complementary !!

A big problem is the only trade paper won’t rock the boat .
Report dambuster October 4, 2023 3:35 PM BST
They went 2.5% a runner round the back of the stands on Saturday.
You can understand it with the amount of overheads i suppose
Report jimnast October 4, 2023 3:50 PM BST
Looking at the projected attendance figures last week Dambuster Newmarket we’re not expecting a good crowd any of the 3 days what was the crowd like ?
Report dambuster October 4, 2023 3:58 PM BST
The crowd was steady on Saturday Jimnast , plenty of £5 % £10 bets flying about. Plenty of coachload punters having a light ale,
but luckily it never kicked off. As many women as men
Report jimnast October 4, 2023 4:30 PM BST
Thankfully it’s been a quiet summer regarding kicking off Dambuster, worrying about the attendance at hq last week,as the entry cost and standard of racing were both more than fair.
Report dambuster October 4, 2023 4:34 PM BST
Yes, it is a worry.
