"Perth has been forced to cancel Thursday's six-race card after failing a raceday inspection at 7.30am.
Following 9mm of rain during racing on Wednesday, the ground was described as heavy. After the final race an inspection was called for Thursday morning, with another 10mm forecast overnight. Perth was hit with the full 10mm of rain that was forecast, making the track unraceable. Matthew Taylor, director of racing at Perth, said on Thursday morning: "We had 10mm during racing yesterday, which isn't good on soft/heavy ground, and we went heavy after the third. We had a further 10mm overnight. "The two hurdle sites down the back have standing water in and they're not safe. We could've tried to remove the hurdle, but even then you'd be slightly nervous about it being safe, to be perfectly frank. Also the crossover down the back from the hurdle to the chase track just doesn't feel safe. " |
