A BILLIONAIRE horse trainer famed for his recent 200-1 winner has been banned for three years after 12 of his horses tested positive for anabolic steroids.

Comer was questioned by stewards last month after Navajo River sprung a 200-1 shock at Roscommon.

The Irish plasterer-turned-property mogul holds the record for the biggest priced winner in history after 300-1 He Knows No Fear won at Leopardstown in August 2020.

But now multiple websites are reporting his career is in tatters after the bombshell drugs finding - which is on an 'unprecedented' scale.

The Irish Field report that Comer is facing legal costs of around £650,000 on top of the ban.

Incredibly, He Knows No Fear was one of the horses who failed a drugs test.

According to an Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board report, He Knows No Fear tested positive after finishing fourth in a Listed race at Leopardstown in October 2021.

A B sample confirmed the original positive.

Out of competition testing took place at Comer's yard on November 10 2021 and 11 further horses tested positive for banned substances.

The horses were Old Tom Higgins, Boxing Hero, Grand D’espagne, Aircraft Carrier, Powerful Don, Wee Jim, Great Moon, Our Man Flint, Questionare, Green Force and Blyton.

How has it taken 2 years?

And previous to go with it:
"It is not the first time Comer has been in hot water with the authorities. In 2017 he was fined €50,000 for a number of breaches of regulation including refusing IHRB officials access to the yard, failing to arrange adequate supervision of his horses, his medicine register not being in order, shortcomings in management structures and his representatives providing false and misleading information regarding the whereabouts of horses."

Tip of the iceberg to be honest.

It's absolutely rampant on both sides of the Irish Sea and all around the world to be honest.

Anyone that thinks it ain't happening, is living in cloud cuckoo land.

I don't disbelieve you at all, just out of interest, how rampant do you think the problem is and why are more offenders not being caught?

i know that. but he ws the fall guy as the bha couldnt confront the uncomfortable truth that godawful had been bang at it. its risible to suppose this humble geezer, dragged in from nowhere by the tyrant who holds power of life and death over his peasants would then decide, entirely independently and without anyone else knowing, to fill all their horses with the best gear. he would be dead by now if he had

theres a reason the chief towelhead used unknowns like him and dusty-they did what they were told. it was common knowledge that their nags would 'winter' in dobuy and come back looking like drayhorses

steroids were not illegal in the gold-plated khazi until they were outlawed well after they were caught

everyone in racing knows it but they all shut up because the taps would have been turned off

Just out of curiosity.... why take a sample from a horse that came 4th in a listed race?

Is this standard?

Why was the horse not tested again when he ran on the 23/10/2021 7 days after he tested positive on 16th October.....

Does it take more than a week to test the samples?

bit more than a theory-and i dont like that sort of thing but the evidence is strong. a lot of drugged horses-far more than just those detected, were attacked by one geezer without the knowledge of the supremo, or anyone else in the giant team? how likely is that. and roids were leagl there

not likely, if he valued his life. if you so much as mention sheikmo on social media, the secret police turn up and you are sentenced in secret, with no right of appeal for 'crimes' such as touching another man, or kissing in public, or 'bringing shame on the uae'. youd have to be nuts to do what he did given these facts

despite supposedly dragging godawfuls name through the sand, he lived peacefully for the next few years in a giant house with his families, despite no discernible income

even when they were caught the bha issued a joint statement with godawful-they could not wait to bury it

The billionaire Comer who has a decent number of horses in training started doping his horses to land gambles or win prestigious races despite not being a gambling stable and only rarely having runners in big races.

dont think anybody laughed at Bolger when he came out with those comments about a level playing field in Ireland tbh

more likely he didnt have the definitive proof needed to name these individuals and would have been sued for
slander/libel in a court of law, would love to know who these alleged cheats are though - cmon Jim

Another small trainer has been caught for doping horses in Ireland. It's reassuring IHRB are catching them. However, it seems only small trainers are being caught in Ireland. Is this behaviour small trainers specific?

Lets put people straight about a few things
Brian and Luke were plasterers from a little town called Glenamaddy in North Galway

Daddy won a few bob on the national lottery and got them started and backed them
They went over to Germmany and made their lives in the building trade
They are now billionaires having worked their nuts off from feck all
They own the middle of a failing rural irish town
They have put their money back into their roots

They are lovely down to earth people ,nice family
however they represent a threat to the Coolemoore elite
those geysers run the IHRB puppet show
Luke couldnt give a toss about the fines but the ban is a tough one
he trained horses for the craic and a hobby and put more into the game than he took out
he doesnt gamble on his horses because he doesnt have to , unlike the coolemore gang

I think you have a small part of that wrong irishone, they left ireland with nothing,  and it was their brother who won the lotto, at that stage the two boys were already doing well in the UK.

A few years ago they almost bought Aston Villa.
