It's true what he says in that blog post. There was a time when one of the tenets of proper economics was that everything in life is a trade-off, or what we would call a gamble. Before you decide to do anything, you price up the options and then decide whether the odds are in your favour. And sometimes you have to act even when the odds are not in your favour, because you can't afford the consequences if things go the wrong way. Or, as David Ashforth once put it: all of life is 6/5 against. Say hello to Simon next time you see him at Taunton or wherever, Somerset Sam. Life's too short to regret not telling someone you appreciate their work. |

We're all still standing though, clinging on. Just a pity that Hogan's isn't. Interesting blog post (aside from the inferred health issues obviously). Nice to see that there are still people with a public profile that hold values similar to mine dear. One senses we are still in the majority, but largely bullied out of the public space. Soon to be online too.
I would comfortably argue that relying on the NHS to help when you most need it is the actual gamble. They tend to love the 'sexy' high adrenaline stuff. If a paraglider flies into a cliff, they will use dozens of resources and £millions recovering them, and putting them back together. But not the mundane (to them) stuff like an illness that wears away at you. |
