A legal question for you, Glen.
A 40 y/o bloke at work took his 17y/o female apprentice to the pub one Friday after work. Had too much to drink and ended up shagging her. Her parents found out (both coppers) and obviously weren’t very happy. Bloke sacked. They are apparently trying to get him done for grooming and buying her alcohol, plus anything else they can think of.
I know he was morally wrong shagging her but has he done anything really illegal!

The answer to your question is no Kenbo, unless there was evidence of grooming for that sole purpose and even that would be hard to prove given she was of the age of consent.
I think the parents are trying to say he was her teacher/mentor and that he should face charges as a school teacher would.
Not a chance imo, the worst case would be the purchase of alcohol and that would be a stretch for a prosecution.

Tbh I would suspend them from duty and find out their motivation, if because they thought they were entitled because of their employment would refer them for further investigation as to suitability in their appointments.

He was a sub contractor. They’ve got rid of him and guess they are trying to get on with the parents.
Tbh he should consider a counter claim if the parents carry on, just my opinion but I think history would be on his side, being deprived of earning his living when he has done no wrong is diabolical imo, my opinion would only change if proof of grooming was proved.

Something I do not think I have ever shared with other than a few. I was arrested on suspicion of murder when I was in Aldershot on a course , a girl who was a single mother had been murdered in Colchester a couple of days after I had left.
The attitude even then was that she got what she deserved for being promiscuous, not sure her age at the time. She was murdered in front of her child, my connection was that I had given her a ST Christopher the night before I left on my course.
I did in The Brewers Arms, because I wanted her to have a safe journey through life, ironic maybe?
A year before my mate and colleague was charged and convicted of manslaughter for killing a gay man in a pub in Portsmouth, he and we had warned the gay to go away several times but he persisted in touching my mate. He punched him once and the guy fell and hit his head and sadly died, my mate got 5 years.
These two incidents are what got me into studying law, even though it was 1982 before I got involved directly, I hope it made me a better copper knowing that without facts any accusation is nothing without them and the person alleging the facts must be able to prove them.
It is a simple principle that most law is based on but bad coppers and individuals can still destroy the basis!!

The difference being real life Kenbo, I said much the same when I first read Lee Child but tbh nothing so dramatic. I doubt I am alone in having incidents along the way and tbh those were minor in comparison.
