The final retirement year though really is a tale of two halfs. As many feck ups as high profile wins. Guess which ones the media bubble only ever make any mention of? Can't wait for him to be gone.
Dettori has won the lot, and it's the right time to retire. Horse riding could be a bit like swings and roundabouts; pits and troughs.
It's best to retire when people are saying "Why is he packing it in ?" and not "Why the **** doesn't he pack it in?"
Going to live in London ffs…..giving up that beautiful home he made for the family and surrounded by people he knows….

When you got to a level he did but aren't at that level anymore it's easy to keep winning big races when the tops jockeys are Murphy and Buick.

If this forum had been in existence the same would have been said about Piggott. Ridiculous to say Dettori needs to retire in my view.
Doesn't need to retire, but doesn't need to carry on with the grind of professionally riding horses. Doesn't matter how much money you've got, and business/premium class travelling options, it still takes a lot of effort to stay race fit, working weekends, lots of travelling. And jockeys are never too far away from being carted off in an ambulance.
Would be a great betting market. I might even get involved in IAC again.
Dettori's lack of knowledge on sports was palpable when he appeared on 'Question of Sport' some years ago now. I can't see him being a presenter of any sort tbh. That's not where his skills lie.

Did fairly pants in CBB didn't he cider? No-one was really all that interested in his personality, which is overblown in racing circles of course. Not to say it couldn't be different in I'm a celeb, but I don't think I'd be charging in to back him either...
