Hazard of racing life. The really annoying ones are where an owner has seen a horse racing overseas the previous week and uses the same name, and sometimes they race on the same day. It would be so easy to stop but the BHA won't act without reciprocity from all the other countries: letting the perfect be the enemy of the good.
Case in point, there is a 4-year-old in Hong Kong called Greenwich, and a 3-year-old here which is declared for tomorrow. |

Same with trainers. I'm sure there was another Richard Hannon back in the 20th Century.

Takeover Target is another one I’ve seen recently.
There seems to have been a few horses called Ptarmingan Ridge also |

Once a horse has been inactive for 10 years, it makes sense to allow the name to be used again. Exceptions are made for winners of Group 1 races. Do we want more and more unpronounceable foreign names that I find very hard to remember which was which a year later? With around 14 thousand new yearlings to name every year, it is getting very hard to find new ones which is why we get daft spellings.

I just noticed the Two Auld Pals from 2011 had only one career run, beaten by 125L at BSP 5.9.
