Red Marauder strikes a fagger deeply at my heart whenever I hear the name.
Way before he became the horse he ended up being he figured in a novice chase somewhere.  I was on a horse called Toytown, at 33's, and everybody thought I was mad - RM  being very short at about evens.  Mine led all the way, and coming to the final fence still looked in good fettle but said Red Marauder just wouldn;t go away and they joined in battle up the final furlong, crossed the line inseparable, and mine was touched off by a nose!
Gutted doesn;t begin to describe it.  It wasn;t a fiver each way! Sad  Laugh

Wow!  You're right - I;ve mixed up the winning horse with Marauder.
Many thanks for the correction and well done digging it out.

For years and years I firmly believed Luca Modric scored a wonder goal for Portsmouth, managed by Harry Redknapp, against Man City, that kept them in the Prem League. They were 1/33 at one point to go down, Id backed them at evens to be relegated for a fair few quid. Turns out he never played for Portsmouth, although he did play for Redknapp at Spurs.Every time I saw Modric on telly I thought "you cost me a few quid you did". The player that did score was Pedro Mendes.

TTT, It is astonishing how memory becomes dislocated - that;s the word I use to describe it.  I can't explain it but it happens as we age I suppose.  I'm always happy to be put right though.  Grin  What I had never known, and stunned to find out from Y-H-T-L's research was that Toytown started at 50/1 and I was only on at 33's!  Laugh  I won on my e.w. bet but it is what might have been that so sticks in the memory craw!

Y-H-T-L's research brought back a particular memory for me ...

On the Friday of Aintree we held a luncheon at work with around 20 esteemed guests from various industries , 2 of the guests were well known sporting figures in Roger Hunt & Gordon Banks , present because they were members of the old football pools panel as the luncheon was at Vernons Aintree call centre.
I was asked to run through the card for the guests along with Statto who did his gig a bit earlier before we sat down to eat , i went through the card race by race and it was fairly clear the guests were extremely occasional punters and today would probably be the only bet of the year for most of them , as 7 or 8 of them were ladies i brought up the suggestion of a coincidence or novelty bet and as Roger Hunt was present it obviously revolved around him and the link with Red Striker & Crazy Horse.

The rest is history , the feedback from my CEO was positive despite costing the company a fair few quid with an over 90/1 double , only complaint from him though was not getting on himself.

Happy memories   Happy
