Quite sad really but sums up how unfair to so many people these gambling commission restrictions are going to be,an elderly man who work all his life now has many illnesses including cancer,he has two pleasures in live watching Liverpool and having a flutter on the horses the 2nd one how now been taken away as he isn’t prepared to disclose his finances.and with respect to him probably wouldn’t know how to .
Hopefully someone can post the letter on here I’m not capable of doing.
Read that article. These do gooders have no idea what harm and apprehension they are doing in trying to impose their social standings on others. Like him, I will never disclose my financial affairs to nosey parkers. No doubt I will suffer the same fate in due course.
Got an email from **** this morning about how to manage my account and the useful betting tools they have available for me.
FFS, I have been betting for over 60 years, £1,750 profit on there in the last 90 days and several hundred pounds on deposit. I think by now I know what I am doing.
I have withdrawn the lot. The condescending coonts can feck off.
The game is nearly up.
Apologies for the rant.

sounds like they know what you're doing too, winning. which means someone is losing. and if it wasn't them (as it shouldn't be) they wouldn't be quite as bothered by your success as they appear to be.

barstool - forgive me, but that sounds what my late grandmother would have called "cutting off your nose to spite your face".
You had a winning, unrestricted account, and you chose to close it because you did not like the tone of an email they sent you?

Yes I am a bit peeved but I have not closed the a/c. Just won't bet with them for a while.
In my little world, I am just trying to send a message back to them.
Not much else I can do.

I think I have had - not that I paid a great deal of attention - one of those "here are our Safer Gambling tools, you might want to use them" emails from pretty much everyone I have an account with - water off a duck's back personally.

Trouble is - barstool.... There is nobody listening.

The Gambling Commission says in the consultation says 1,000,000 accounts plus will have to give over bank statements or open banking access in order to bet. Most people will (especially losers) will be unwilling to do this.
Result could be a 50% drop in racing's finances and the end of UK racing as we know it.
Betfair exchange racing will continue to decline.
Big boom for the offshore exchange and bookmakers that dont pay levy or much tax.
Looks like they finally worked out what this will mean for UK racing.

This is like the hunting ban. A war on class. The do-gooders don't care about losing punters any more then they cared for foxes. Racing is a sport run by the rich and the privileged. They are the target. Punters and jobs are just collateral damage.
The present government is Tory in name only.

There is all talk from a lot of people and orgs but no action. Why isn't there a judicial review on the basis of the human rights act being launched. The right to use your property freely and the right to privacy are both in play.
On top of that the GC should be clearly stating that people on means tested benefits should be allowed to bet. That would concentrate minds.

bookies and their pals at the GC have latched onto something that means they have a convenient excuse to profile everyone that bets with them. the pensioner can't have a bet cos joe bloggs stole 100 grand from the company safe and blew it all in 25 minutes on the fobt. do me a favour ffs.

The Govt, firms & GC want to be careful they don't get too greedy, there aren't many new horse punters coming thru. if they keep stopping people from betting because they have bet too much or they beat the price too often or they don't lose as much as they want them to. then racing might well become a very minor sport and go down the same road as Greyhound racing

i can't even get a multiple bet on here for any more than pennies, i tried an ew trixie at ascot on saturday and was offered 12p ew trixie. and i've lost over the years. Plus what happens if you have the last leg of a Yankee to win you £10k with a firm and want to lay back on here. for example, you want to deposit £2k lay and £2k at 1.95 IR, in case your horse trades low and gets beat. How is that fair ? . You're only hedging your bet

Well Dambuster I can’t see who’s going to bet those ho lose to much can’t bet those who win can’t bet those who beat the price can’t bet,so that leaves those who break even and don’t beat the price, not sure the staff get paid.

The Racing Post - the bookies' mouthpiece/tipsters - is supposedly a horseracing paper. Now, advising readers (only a handful) and horseracing fans to bat against The Gambling Commission.
Where was the Racing Post when the Gambling Commission were endorsing their bookie mates on fobt? Where was the Racing Post when their bookie mates were restricting and closing down recreational punters accounts?
Personally, I'd tell the Racing Post to f...-off. Do not throw stones when one is living in a glass horse Racing Post!

4. Optimise returns to good causes from The National Lottery
The National Lottery is one of the world’s largest lotteries. Since launching in 1994, National Lottery players have collectively raised more than £42billion for 625,000 good causes across the UK, transforming lives and contributing to the arts, sports and heritage sectors and to communities.
The lottery is totally pernicious. A chav tax, selling an 'impossible' dream. I wonder what tests are done to ensure the people hoodwinked into playing it can afford to do so...
I had a look on the GC websiteSTRATEGIC OBJECTIVE 44. Optimise returns to good causes from The National LotteryThe National Lottery is one of the world’s largest lotteries. Since launching in 1994, National Lottery players have collectively raised
The Man Engine Utilising funds from the National Lottery, the largest mechanical puppet ever to be built in Britain was designed and constructed to celebrate the Cornish Mining Landscape's World Heritage status. Known as the Man Engine, the movable structure is 11.2m tall and 'transforms' when enough people are gathered to sing to him. The project ran an educational programme featuring an initial 30 school workshops, before the Man Engine set off to tour other parts of the country.
.
A row has erupted on the other side of the Tamar over the cost of tickets to see Cornwall's mechanical puppet in action.
The cost of tickets for Tavistock’s Man Engine attraction have been criticised for being too expensive.
Event organisers have defended the ticket prices – saying that they need the money to cover the cost of putting on the £1 million spectacle.
As reported by the Plymouth Herald afternoon tickets for the event cost £13 on the door while concession tickets cost £8 however tickets for evening event were £16.50 for adults and £13 for concessions.

bookies have done all the heavy lifting by gubbing anyone with half a clue to buttons.
limit you to a 12p ew trixie then have the balls to turn round and say "oh, and by the way we also want to see how much you're earning, where you went on holiday last year and how big your wifes t!ts are"

The National Lottery started with once a week. Now two I think. But, it has no shareholders. The bookies robbed the vulnerable and gambling addicts with fobt for over two decades. Shockingly T=this theft is still on-going.

The lottery is the nirvana model for the establishment. Regularly scalping the feckless with no risk to the house. This is what they would like all betting to be like.

The most prominent element is the hypocrisy. Optimising returns to good causes is another way of saying optimising gambling losses to the public, as long as it is via the mechanism of the lottery.

The fine of 'baddie' dished out by the Gambling Commission was allocated to mitigate or reduce addiction or problem gambling. This is misleading and probably a waste of money/resource, why? Because spurious and unqualified individuals setting up entities with no relevant expertise purporting to treat problem gamblers or addicts will access the funds with little or no due diligence done very similar to a large number of entities applying for and getting "bounce back" loans from government during Covid. It would not surprise me if these individuals were related to or worked (or working) within the betting industry.
It's a proven fact the Gambling Commission needs to be radically re-structured or totally dismantled. The present Gambling Commission has too many engrained methodologies not suitable for 2023 and beyond. This quango needs to go, and a qualified head honcho with experience in the Betting industry appointed.

It probably was the advent of fobt’s and their online equivalent that pressed the issue of problem gambling. But it was used as a headline grabber to lump in all forms of gambling, those who lobbied on the issue made no attempt to separate the two, clearly on purpose.
It’s akin to the gender bs. There are something like 0.02% of the public who have verifiable cause to have medical assistance to define sex, yet it’s now a question of pushing an agenda in childhood to ask which sex they believe they are. Just as all gambling has to be quizzed and scrutinised because of a similar minority who have problems with gambling.

Punters who only play FOBTs might escape the affordability checks if the bookies can provide them with a win when they are nearing their limit.
Keep the patient alive and drip feed off them.
No they would'nt would they?
