A little unusual to see a G1 for this age group with no previous G1 winners but there you go.
Took a chance on Mqse De Sevigne 15/2 eachway for Andre Fabre.
Just hoping that 10f has been stretching her and the drop back to a mile brings some welcome relief.

The looks a weak Group 1.
If there is a proper Group 1 horse in the race it is Kelina. I think the key to her is the ground. She doesn't want it soft. On track report suggests the ground isn't as soft as was given. Has it dried enough is the question. The 6/1 with William Hill was taken immediately after the updated going report. |

The Rothschild is a weak contest this year.
I'm more interested in Elite Status in the earlier race at 14:50. He arrived at Ascot with a tall reputation, but could only finish 3rd; 10/11 best price with 365. |

have backed sound of heaven and grand dame win bet 15/2 and 10/1 ew blinkers on 1st time grand dame and solid form last season ryan rides ,sound of heaven very little to find with remarque lightly raced and looks to be progressing nicely good luck all.

Only thing I got right was it was that it was a weak Group 1.
I can't remember backing so much rubbish in two days. Kelina (6/1-7/2) was probably the best backed horse, but has run more than a stone below. The ground shouldn't have been that much of an issue, and can't believe switching from a round course to a straight one is enough of an excuse. Just another pathetic performance. Still on to Goodwood where the jocks have all those ready made excuses. I wonder what Dettori will come up with on the day one banker? |

If you restrict the qualifications for a Group 1 to an age group or one sex then you will sometimes end up with a sub standard field. The Derby is for 3yo colts over 12 furlongs in June so it will not contain a superstar every year and nor will the Prix Rothschild which is for fillies only. The King George allows fillies and mares as well as colts and horses of any age so in theory should be stronger form but only if the going is suitable for leading contenders.

True, I had forgotten that but with the Oaks available, it is very rare. As the KG proved, 12 furlong horses are rarely at their best until the autumn of their 3yo year or at 4 and above. Even with such a generous weight allowance, no 3yo fillies were ever seriously mentioned for the King George.
