Don't know if this counts but if I back something at say 6.0 pre race, I sometimes put in say a 1.5 lay. Of course you remember more  wasted lays when the horse wins than the ones that get you your stake back.
Rico -why is it harder ? Is it that if you've put in a 100 lay there is a bot that sees that before it gets matched and puts in a 98 lay that does get matched and similarly if you are trying to back at 1.04, it backs at 1.03 ?

yes, it's owned by padi and i've been telling you / warning you about it for months.  and the reason its "harder" is it wasn't there before.

I've never used IR as a central approach to punting or trading. It can be useful for me at times, but I would never rely on speed of play that IR necessitates.

I think I'm fairly typical of punters on the exchanges these days, who prefer to use judgement about selections pre-race rather than jump into the madness of IR to risk their money. Which may be why the money is dying out during races these days.

there are bots/apps that connect directly to betfair's server. No matter how quick you are on gruss, they will get an order in before you and people like hulk who connect via a browser are just embarrassing themselves by entering the discussion.

dave1357, I thought all internet processes were ultra fast but I watch and bet in London and Somerset and London 'seems' faster. OK, it's nearer BF HQ in Hammersmith, but is this just my imagination?

swifty - have you ever checked your imagination by running a ping or traceroute to betfair.com from both locations?

Being closer to LINX in London might be the deciding factor if it is real.

I had a look at the betangel site and they appear to have changed their blurb, but they still have servers dedicated to trading where you place your betangel app. They do still claim to have unique API settings that are faster than other apps.

somerset

884.4

Mbps download

111.8

Mbps upload

Latency: 6 ms

London

only 76bps ping 7ms

so is it just my imagination? Probably, just harder these days, I'm living in the past!

that ping is just the speed test result, don't know about this traceroute thing.
By:
longbridge
When: 24 Jul 23 12:10
traceroute just shows you where it goes on its way to get from you to where it is going.

When you add in possible broadband (ISP) factors, it's just a minefield to try to be 'quicker' on the gun IR.

I much prefer to keep to strategies that have nothing much to do with trading speed.

It’s the Water Polo World Championships at the moment so I’ve had a few In-Swimming bets.

The Chinese are surprisingly good…like torpedoes flying through the water while the Croats are just brutal…they don’t mind drowning you.

stu, can't disagree with that, everyone is watching a 'different' race, the 1000 backer is not backing at the point the layer submits his bet, all just luck to a degree.
By:

When: 24 Jul 23 12:29
Yep - it levels the playing field (at least as much as poss) if you get your bets on before they've taken a first stride in the race.

Rico -why is it harder ?

cos its gps/roebot controlled..last 3f theres only quids in 95% of boxes..hence ewe click with a big overide back or lay ewe get peanuts ev price up to you overide where ewe norm get 90% of your steak at the max.

there is no backer..the roebot matches the 1000 request.
By:

Eye nose that. Just saying at the point you lay big someone is viewing the race at a different point and thinks it can win. They wouldn't be backing it at the point you are laying it, in most cases at least.

Rico ffs why can’t you get your head around this?

The reason you get matched at the big prices is because you come on here telling everyone what your presets are
The whole markets are snided with analysts who are more than happy to do nothing other than put money in the opposite side to your top price override knowing on averages they will probably profit.

All the other money in between where people actually play what they see can cancel their money faster than you can match it.

Half the ppl who put bets in the markets arn’t even watching the race stupid bstard.
They know what prices to put what bets in when based on the stats.

Why would anyone bother asking for prices lower than what they know they will get off your top price on half chances?
You just make profit gambling on stewards, which can and does change with the wind, as for actual IR you’ve been pushed aside.

All the continual chirp about a conspiracy that it’s bf’s money in the markets and not just a set of quants with their own bots using a developed product.

So show me a list of PC payers closed down for continually taking 60% of bf’s money every week.
