As you will well know - revs - Having been on here practically from the Off.
You are betting against - Other People - Not Betfair
Other people who do Not want to Lay you 5/1 about a 5/2 shot.
But - If Betfair were to Seed one market - Then they would have to Seed the lot = Expensive.

becoming a layer in an illiquid market is suicide and I think that's half the problem. The ability to hedge a position should it turn against you is no longer an option as the liquidity no longer exists. Big layers withdrawing from the market is having a knock on effect and turnover is shifting from the hours before the race to the last 5 minutes before the race. Whether I'm betting against other people or betfair is up for debate, but I've seen some very suspicious front running trading on my bets and market orders disappear repeatedly when submitting my bet to accept the price (this was in a stagnant market!)

Liquidity would jump immediately if they didn't impose their affordability checks which are way more draconian than what even the govt's white paper proposes.

Primarily trading but I do punt if I have an edge (rare these days!) ----------------
Well - That's charming -
You want to self-centredly TRADE some prices to 'nick a few quid' - Off other PEOPLE'S OPINIONS on the outcome of a Horse Race ....
and complain when those - Far Braver than you - Punters/Layers prefer to 'keep their powder dry, for longer.

"self-centred traders" are the liquidity you absolute bell. Its now a handful of people and the robot. Left to the layers/punters they'd be virtually no market there!

- and So the Market is - until 'Punter/Layer Time' - as the races approach
You, however, wish to operate in a Market where the OUTCOME of THE RACE is entirely INCONSEQUENTIAL (to you) ...
- and now - You are calling for Betfair to 'add Liquidity' to those Markets.

Without this liquidity boost, the markets will continue to decline and the product will become unusable, apart from 5 minutes before the race. So the punter who takes the game seriously will not be able to get a bet on at the bookmaker (because he is price sensitive) and can't have a proper bet until the race is nearly off.

was different when it was black and wray. don't think they were sitting there thinking this cnts trying to lock in a profit on our exchange lets throw some money in to (illegally?) move the market away from him.

Well - As long as the Markets are usable from 5 minute before the race - Then so be it... so long as you can Get ON - as a Punter (Not a Trader)
Not used a Bookmaker in 20 years - and gave up tearing around the Shops when the Shops Internal Screen communications, replaced the old Shop-to-Shop Telephone Pyramid Price Change System - of which I had worked out the sequences, and how to beat it (time-wise).
Mind you - Traffic was far lighter in those days - Far fewer Speed Cameras, and far fewer Double Yellow lines .... - and - You could get a bet ON - but being careful not to hit the' bet take-out' limits that would trigger/instigate a call to Regional/Head Office to accept your bet.
Those WERE the days.
