This reminded me that 40+ years ago, being driven home from school, one of the light-hearted things on the afternoon Radio 4 "PM" programme was an elderly widow who wrote in to say that she was getting a 25p or 50p increase in her pension on reaching 70 or 75 or 80, and what should she do with it?
The winning answer was to go down the bookies the day after pension day and put the 50p or whatever on a double on that morning's "Today" programme tips - it would get her out of the house and provide a little bit of excitement one afternoon every week. |

I think around Christmas time someone comes on the programme to give a profit/loss report on the tips. Not sure how they did last year.

I think (not checked for years) they usually lose, which is what you would expect for a widely-shared tip, but it's a bit of exposure for our sport to the right demographic.
