Nip over to jersey and visit les landes races for the evening.

Bookmaker’s sp returns

Race 1   4 runners 132 %

Race 2.  7 runners 157%

Race 3   8 runners 145%

Race 4.  5 runners  147%

By race 5 the punters who we’re struggling to come up for breath had one final race to endure and the books who were getting a real good taste for fleecing the crowd decide to hammer the nail right in by going 11.25% a runner at 145 for 4 runner contest.

Report sparrow July 19, 2023 2:09 PM BST
Well that's one racecourse we can beat for value over here.Grin
Report jerseyboy July 19, 2023 2:10 PM BST
Would you like to stand there and pay 400 betting badge for 5 races, the same horses meeting after meeting. Plus staff wages.  No i did not think so.
Report jerseyboy July 19, 2023 2:16 PM BST
Further to my comments below, for your interest a professional punter from the Uk still managed to get 425 at 7/2 an even money winner,  Plus 500 at 6/4 a winner that started well odds on,  yes get fleeced by those in the know, come racing in Jersey      no UK outlets
Report jimnast July 19, 2023 2:18 PM BST
Does the bookmaker from Scotland still travel over ?
Report sparrow July 19, 2023 2:23 PM BST
I wasn't referring to the betting market but more the facilities as to value.  I understand the position of the on course bookmakers and their obvious expenses.
Report jerseyboy July 19, 2023 2:50 PM BST
Jimnast   Yes he stands when not committed in the UK, believe he misses 3 meetings this year out of the 9 arranged.
Report jimnast July 19, 2023 2:55 PM BST
A few years ago he told me les landes was his best pitch never been myself so no idea what the crowds are like but clearly cash about .
Report jerseyboy July 19, 2023 3:22 PM BST
All weather dependent, last two meetings have been held on a friday night, probably 2500/3000 there. Meeting this sunday again weather dependent and no UK runners.5 RACES total runners 28 all local, including those that if they started now could not win..
Report jimnast July 19, 2023 3:37 PM BST
Fair crowd jerseyboy many uk racecourses would love to get that on some days including supposedly grade one courses ,hope the weather is kind and those setting of now you manage to get a few quid for.

As they say, Jerseymen are but Scots stripped of their generosity.

Must have been an old Racegoer that coined that phrase looking at those %.  Come Raing. Happy

Jersey people are among the most generous in the world, they continuesly raise fortunes for various charities each and every year.

How many bookmakers are allowed to bet jerseyboy and with only 9 meetings a year I should imagine none are full time.

never been to racecourse but used to go over for the tax free when 10% was on, good excuse to have a family holiday popped into a bookies and old pro gilly from redcar doing the same, he was a friend of clive holt of fineform fame, nice bloke gilly and so was clive
Report jerseyboy July 20, 2023 1:31 PM BST
6 racecourse bookies, 5 very friendly and no hassle but 1 a law unto himself, wants to take every bet on the course, arrogant and cocky, but will not last long. One scotsman  works the UK tracks. One Guernseyman has the monopoly in Guernsey, one of the good guys.
Report jimnast July 20, 2023 1:47 PM BST
Is it 6 by choice jersey or is that the maximum allowed?
Report onlooker July 20, 2023 2:48 PM BST

JImnast  hE WOULD BE MADE WELCOME, think about it flights from UK  say 200  Staff say 150  betting badge 400  thats say 750    you now have 5 races to make it, this Sunday first race a match 2 from the same stable, good luck there. Now we have 4 races left 7 in each 3 no hopers in each which all the locals know about. If your flight back is fog bound add on another 400   come to Jersey you are welcome.  TG has the electric board has no 3 pitch out of the 6   good guy.

Someone asked if 6 is the max answer yes at present, if you want a pitch I could possibly find one for say 50 large.  Any takers ???

Couple of questions jerseyboy

If a book doesn’t attend does that leave 5 or is there a pick 7 to replace
What is the situation with joints over there
Is there an on-site betting shop
Is there a tote
Report jerseyboy July 20, 2023 7:11 PM BST
There are 5 bookies if say the Scot does not show then there are 4    One deceased last year.No reserve list
There is a LOCAL tote    no Uk business either way.
No on site betting shop, there was one probably 12 /15 years ago.

Pint is app 4 to 5 pounds

It was joints not pints I meant although the price of a pint is always important to me and I must say I expected a lot more expensive over there

jerseyboy -

If it is the BLUE CASHMERE that I am thinking of - It was trained by Michael Stoute

Won a few Handicaps as a 3-yt-old including the Ayr Gold Cup  .... Went on to Win the Nunthorpe the year after.

Stoute also Won the Stewards' Cup, the same year - with another 3-yr-old Alphadamus.

Backed them both ...
