Chester's chief executive has called for the BHA to make an exception for the day known as Super Saturday when it introduces its plans for premierisation into the 2024 fixture list.
Chester was one of four major tracks to occupy a prime afternoon position on Saturday alongside Newmarket, York and Ascot, a situation at odds with the industry's new core principals for reforming the fixture list next year.

It was precisely the problems of this day's (Super Saturday) CLASHES of several MAJOR races - that prompted the proposed revised Fixture Plan in the first place.
Where have they been at Chester?

Chester 14.07 off 14.13, 14.42 off 14.46, 15.17 off 15.18, 15.52 off 15.54, 16.27 off 16.30, 17.00 off 17.01 .In the 14.07, it was due to Bamboo Bay walking down to the start .
Ok some were only a minute late but if a Swiss train is due to depart at 15.17, it departs at 15.17. |

Chester does get the crowds 20,000 plus as does York. Newmarket should revert to a mid week July cup. They only get 12000

I must say super saturday this year i had the least bets so far this season it was just too much, surely it would have been better to have the Ascot fixture on a Sunday.

Strange that the next day, Sunday, was so poor.
All there was all day were 2x below average summer jumping cards, with only two Class 3s the 'best' we could watch. Perth had 26 horses all day! Granted, Men's Final at Wimbledon, but one of those meetings from Saturday could have cashed in. |

July meeting Tuesday Wednesday Thursday again ,really cannot see any negatives about that,it was hugely successful both for the racecourse with good crowds all 3 days and plenty of business for the local area,whilst the July cup still gets a lots of focus ,the bunbury cup is like the ebor nobody really remembers who won it anymore.

The tennis shouldn’t come into it a few years ago it clashed with the England New Zealand cricket World Cup final both sports just got on with it,no need for change,which should have happened derby day. |

Agree onlooker,Chester trying to move the goal posts calling it Bonkers Saturday ffs,if they get their way surely other independents would be up in arms? Agree ideal solution to move Newmarket but that won't happen.

The problem with that scenario brians is that Bangor and Musselburgh would go also which are two smashing well run racecourses.

Mind you - If you fancied one, and wanted to get your price - You had to be a bit cute, and out of the traps smartly, to get that price -as ... 4-Day Declarations, in those days - which were declared Friday for Tuesday Racing - and most of the Firms opened up a Book on the Bunbury Cup when those Decs were made - But you had to get around the Shops on Saturday, to get your price, as there was no Sunday Racing - and if you left it to the beginning of the coming race week, the Final Decs were then made, and your price gone - when most of the Final Declared Runners shortened up. Worked well, as the majority of Punters did not 'think July meeting' until the Monday onwards. Now - The Bunbury Cup is just another Saturday Handicap - ruined by cramming all those Handicaps into Saturday cards  Ascot's Victoria Cup was a similarly great race - when it was the feature on a stand-alone Wednesday (single day) Ascot card/meeting ... Now - as the above Bunbury Cup. |

Yes onlooker forgotten the Wednesday Victoria cup where the card ended with the white rose handicap.

i call it silly saturday . move a couple of meetings to sunday . incidentally , had to go to chester today on business . what a lovely place without the hordes of false eyelashes and fake footballers cramming into the racecourse .
