I went back to laying horses, Uk, Ireland and the US at night time. I lay nearly all favourites and sometimes second favorites as well. It's impossible. Once again my account gets wiped out after steadily winning, or just small wins and small losses for a few weeks. And I was STILL being charged 5% on EVERY win - the 5% should be charged once every 24 hours on the basis that a customer has actually won money. Their winnings should be charged once every 24 hours. I could go back to very low stakes, day in day out, but what is the point, why should my life be consumed by racing?! Then a once a year punter comes along and wins on some 'tip' at Cheltenham or Goodwood and doesn't have a bet till next year. It's worse than gambling in any highstreet bookies, and their blackjack house-edge is FAR above all the others and what it should be. Its no wonder the maximum bet is 10,000! Quite scummy but I digress..
Are you playing from abroad? - Because NOBODY in the UK should be Paying 5% Commission ...
If you do not know why .... Then you should not be on Betfair.
Laying (Betting) USA Racing is an extremely different animal to - UK and Ireland Racing ...
If you do not know why .... Then you should not be on Betfair -
- (and - whatever you do .... Do NOT try LAYING FAVS in Australia).
If you are - ALSO - Playing 'Blackjack' ... Then you should, surely, be aware - that is an entirely different Mindset to trying to Play Horse Racing... you cannot group the two together.
Finally:
If Betfair only Charged Commission on a customer's OVERALL daily Profit....
They would be out of business inside a week.
Several points here ...Are you playing from abroad? - Because NOBODY in the UK should be Paying 5% Commission ... If you do not know why .... Then you should not be on Betfair.Laying (Betting) USA Racing is an extremely different animal to - UK and I
"I lay nearly all favourites" Perhaps there's your problem. What on earth makes you think that laying nearly every favourite gives you an edge over the market? An edge so big that it should beat the 5% commission? A lot of fools think that because "favourites win only 30% of races" means they can lay every shot at evens or 6/4. Guess what, favs at evens win 50%.

Also if somebody is new to betting on horses my best advice would be to only back the fav. Backing all of them is like -2% roi, so if you back them with any clue at all you should get at least 5%.

That's 2 people who have posted recently who have admitted to losing a fortune and sadly are addicted to gambling so much so that it has taken over their lives. There is another one on here in denial who constantly posts nonsense on and regularly does his nuts by gambling on anything that moves.

It must be 5% constantly coz I'm based in Oireland. The whole betfair experience is not good to the ordinary person, and it can take over your life because it forces one to be laying or betting constantly, even if one isn't addicted simply to get their 5% down to 3 or 2 or whatever. After a bad run of results, it takes ages to (or would take ages) to retrieve even lost of it - this is also why I said it take over your life or can. And also the fact the small player never gets his commission down below 4%. I highly suspect the "cashout" facility is a scam in running, that is it is just more profit for betfair/paddy power.

You may be right about Ireland & other places but I think anyone in UK can be on 5% unless you go in the menu click 2% basic and give up all offers. That's the choice you have but may just be UK.

I am moderately sure that the old commission model (where one paid 5% minus a discount based on "betfair points') now only applies to betting on Australian markets.
What do you see if you click on "My Betfair Rewards" (righthandmost option in the black ribbon menu at the top of the site)?

Never has a betfair username been so inappropriate! heezagoodoperator Date Joined: 05 Jun 09 Surely it can't have taken you 14 years to come to the conclusion that laying nearly all favourites and sometimes 2nd favs isn't going to make you any money! If i were you i'd log out and never come back on here again, do a few multiples with the bookies to satisfy your urge to have a bet and expect to lose there long term as well but at least no commission to pay.

@longbridge Hi I see that now, thanks. I changed my plan to "basic". I've no interest in free accums or sportsbook bonuses. Bloody el! Saving myself now if I go back to the exchange. @stewards rise I'm NOT involved to make profit but only to break even or relatively small win/loss. I've been away for about 6 years and was a bookie myself, during which I found laying favs quite profitable.
