threatening to pull coverage if a ban on gambling adverising between 5.30 am and 9.00pm is made law. The bill to ban such advertising passed the committee stage on Tuesday evening.
From what I read RTV will no longer show Irish Racing in the UK if this Bill is passed, but I think they will change it to only include Normal TV channels if they dont we will no longer be able to view Irish Racing.

Irony that a lot of reckless gambling is alcohol fuelled. To allow the ads after 9pm is quite bizarre. Treating it like a watershed, but under 18s can't gamble anyway.

What it does show is that despite all the romantic nonsense about how all the Irish people love racing, there's plenty would not know which end kicks and which end bites, and it looks like that faction is running the government.

The fact they have taken it this far shows how out of touch they are. There would be big trouble if Irish racing could be viewed in UK but not Ireland.

Why do these governments give in to these minorities who cannot control there gambling ? There's enough help out there for these people if they want help. Its the same all over Britain and Ireland, bow to the minorities and alienate the Majority

Irish racing and the Irish Treasury are going to lose a lot of revenue so might change their minds.
Not sure the Irish Treasury will lose much. Don't they hand most of the revenue over to the Irish Horse Racing Board anyway, as things stand? Hence the consternation when it turned out the other week that some of that revenue might have been resting in the wrong account.
Happy to be corrected, if I've got this wrong.

I would be very happy to see it moved off both GB channels unless it is treated like French racing when a clash is recorded and shown later. I very rarely bet in Irish racing so get very cross when I see a GB race bumped in order to show it. Anyone who really wants to watch it can us a bookmaker feed.
