Eye would take a Jack Bauer type monocular and scan for all the idiots with binoculars..

As a very long term racegoer (pre big screens) and keen birdwatcher, I hardly go anywhere without binoculars. I have been to Wimbledon a few times and didn't take them there but if you have reduced sight and a seat at the back of a stand I can see how you would benefit from having them. It can be hard to follow the flight of the ball on TV sometimes and being in a seat at the side of a court would make it harder but keeping your bins trained on the ball could be tricky!

I thought binoculars and a macintosh were standard equipment for the kinds of gentlemen who follow tennis.

My point was, you really can't follow tennis with binoculars can you, it's too fast, i did also say it was a woman holding them and the players were between ends. She was clearly visible at the side and pretty close to the court. So the Big knickers and mackintosh theory doesn't really apply imo.
