Yes but there's a bit more to this story because whereas others jocks i.e. Velasquez were pulled up on it immediately for a similar offense, Dettori's was withheld because they didn't want the negative publicity at the time of the Golden child committing a whip violation.

I think all whip offences are now referred to the Whip Panel (or whatever it is called) which meets centrally and dispenses bans to achieve a degree of uniformity. The delay in banning Dettori and Murphy is perfectly normal. I didn't know Velasquez was banned, but if he was, it may be because he was returning to USA and would not be available for the delayed, centrally administered procedure. It certainly does not reveal a reluctance to have negative publicity for FD.

I think jockeys committing whip offences ought to be fined eg 1 strike over - £10k; 2 - £20k; 3 - £50k; 4 - £100k. Anything over these 6 months automatic suspension.
