I was unemployed for a while after leaving school and I was virtually enforced by social security to take a Xmas job as a Postman (I didn't mind) and when I told my father he said "Well, it's better than walking the streets"

My postie says only 1 card in ten contains money these days, barely worth his while opening them.

Years ago my postie was a happy smiley chatty man. Now he is a stone faced power walker.

Getting paid to keep fit. Whats not to like(other than snow/wind/rain -6 degrees)

Don't replace the retiring postie,chop the walk in half give the two halfs to nearest walks.
Still delivering around here past 3pm.
I was in the pub by 11.00am doing two walks.

done 36 years, handed in my notice last week. Its all about the money for the shareholders now.3 new starters last week, none of them made the second week. One sacked,2 gave up. I wouldnt recommend it to anyone.

the last few winters have been noticeably milder, so yes, shorts on all but the coldest days ( below zero )

If I rode in the Cheltenham Gold Cup, Id be putting up about a stone overweight. Id also fall off

It's been around for 23 years and you've handed in your notice last week. Sounds like someone was a mug.

Everyone here acts all high and mighty when you've all had at least 20 years more to bet.

I discovered Betfair in 2007, almost 16 years ago. It took me around 2 years to start turning a profit. Ive averaged 10k a year profit over that time (more now) and now have more than enough to retire early. Keep searching for those edges, they are there !

If you were so shrood to win 10k in 2010, you should have a million by now with proper staking. Sounds like you still operate with a 10k bank and this month is +18pts.

i got a job as a postie but kept getting the sack.

Its a dreadful job atm and will only get worse , the last month of hot weather just grinds you down.
When you get home you just want to fall asleep.
When it was job and finish you got more done in less time , home earlier and felt better.
All about the shareholders now.

Must be a soul destroying job nowadays, carrying a bag full of junk round and one or two letters to go with it.

letters are on the decline, but still get bundles each day because the walks are so big, in fact too big. Mail left in every delivery office in the country every day, undelivered. Shocking service. Small packages have to be delivered too,aswell as larger ones at the moment, 20-30 a day of these, although the large ones will be taken off us in August and given to dedicated parcel delivery posties.

Still tiger, if after 16 years on here +1800 is a decent month, you didn't manage your bank correctly. You could easily have at least 200k now so the decent month would be +18k. I see this all the time, some people deposit 1k, grow it to 10k, then withdraw everything to waste on some frivolous, fleeting BS and start over from 1k instead of growing it further to 100k.

Ok thanks for the replies TameTheTiger and jodean. Think I’ll give it a swerve though as don’t sound too good. Think my postman/woman changes every week so summut ain’t right.

Do you get much aggro from your ‘customers’ either takin the P or moaning because stuff is late etc?

Could do with a part-time job just go reach 12.5k something stress free. Thought about supermarket delivery driver but could imagine some of the customers being right twits.

My strategy wudnt scale up to those heights, not enough liquidity on a regular basis. Id end up having more on the bad bets than the good ones if I asked for more than say £100 at the price

He talks in telephone numbers - he hasn’t put any of his back fitting into practice and will not know that the more you get on the likelihood is that u won’t get the same price to make that ROI as his back fits suggest.

steve voltage the trouble with working for a firm is that for example  say they pay you £700 please yourself what hours you work and have no fook a week they want a grands worth of work out of you , go self employed if you can.

Well I have come to the conclusion (took me a while admittedly, and cut you some slack for too long), that 99% of the threads on here are "decent", compared to yours.....simple as that.

I'm one of the 5 people who occasionally post a pre-race bet, the rest are gutless cowards.

And of course the cowards come into my thread after the race is over to tell me what a bad pick it was.

I even posted a winner today and of course it was crickets after. The cowards come out of the woodwork only after a loss.

Well I applied for a Postie with driving experience. Have to say I found the online interview/questionnaire well over the top for a £11.39 an hour job. Think there was over 80 questions/scenarios to complete.
Anyway a crazy aloof woman calls, amazing this amazing that! 'congratulations I'm offering you the position of becoming a Postie.' I return all the required information as requested and then I get an email from another lady saying I will be your point of contact before you start. Again I return all the requested information i.e drivers license etc. and completed another ridiculously over-the-top online form.

A week later nothing so I login to my portal to see that the application has been withdrawn with no explanation or anything

Done me a favour to tbh as really didn't fancy do a glorified paper-round 5 days a week

Well I eventually started the job and man what a ball ache. I lasted 8 days. It was the parcels that broke me plus expected to walk 35-50 miles per week was too much for me so I quit. Hats off to those 30+ year pros that do this job with some even biking to and from work. I guess it takes years to build that kind of stamina.

Ub gave it a go. Anyways. Back to pro punting .
Tame hows retirement going

Have to say I was amazed at how many were on the long-term sick. Amazing that in todays world they still pay full sick pay like that.

Really hope you find something soon SV. Sick pay is part of what Royal Mail are changing.Everything is changing for the worse. Some do abuse the system, i suppose its the same in other jobs. Its not the same job now. I dont regret leaving 7 weeks ago, even though I missed out on back pay and the 2 lump sums (900+500)payable in September. I can make that on here if I need to. Good luck !
