"There are now 12 hours of oxygen left in the missing Titan submersible as rescue efforts continue for the five passengers. 
A Canadian aircraft searching for the sub in the Atlantic Ocean detected intermittent “banging” noises from the vicinity of its last known location, the US Coast Guard said.
Crew searching for the missing sub heard banging sounds every 30 minutes on Tuesday and again four hours later on Wednesday after additional sonar devices were deployed.
However, the US Coast Guard clarified that they “don’t know the source of the noise”.
Aboard the Titan is CEO and founder of OceanGate Expeditions Stockton Rush, British billionaire explorer Hamish Harding, renowned French diver Paul-Henri Nargeolet and Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood and his 19-year-old son Suleman Dawood.
Mr Dawood’s sister, Sabrina Dawood told Sky News that the Dawood family is solely focused on the rescue of her brother and nephew and hope for their safe return.
The watercraft submerged on Sunday morning from its support vessel to travel to the Titanic wreckage which sits at a depth of 12,500ft. About an hour and 45 minutes later, the Titan lost contact with its surface ship, the Polar Prince.
The Titan is equipped with a four-day emergency oxygen supply."
“It is impossible not to make the connection between the fateful voyage of the Titanic and another, more than a century later, which took five intrepid souls to view its watery wreckage.

why oh why would a billionaire want to go 2.5 mile underwater to view a shipwreck in a basic submersible beggars utter belief.

As an ex submariner, I feel for them - they took some big risks, but keeping my fingers crossed for them, since i'm not a praying type.
Hope they are found but this is only about 22ft & around 9/10tonnes,

Dr Ledez explained some of the factors at play for those onboard the missing Titan sub.
He says surviving after oxygen runs out will depend on a person's metabolism and some may survive longer than others.
"It’s not like switching off a light, it’s like climbing a mountain," he said.
"They're going to do everything they can to reduce their oxygen consumption, they're going to rest, they're going to try to be as relaxed and calm as possible because they know that too much activity will cause more metabolism - creating more carbon dioxide."
Dr Ledez also says "hypothermia could be their friend".
"There is a possibility if they cool down enough and lose consciousness they could live through it... The heart beat can be really slow when cold," he said.
"Could they go on a week after the limits? I doubt it. But some may survive longer than others."

The oceanographer who first discovered the wreck also later discovered the Bismarck and refuses to say where it is because he considers the gross commercialization of the Titanic to be akin to grave robbing.

I'm not qualified to give opinions on submersible craft (it's not a submarine) but i can on carbon fibres and pressure in aerospace. A few of us in the office have been following this tragedy and discussing the craft itself.
It's not certified and actually quite crudely designed with minimal safety features. It needs a mother ship and can only be opened externally. Minimal power. No heating. The size of a small camping caravan with cramped conditions. No verbal communication with the outside world. Carbon fibre filament technology is common in many industries (including sea craft) and not really an issue, but sea-pressure at 4000 metres approaches 6000 PSI (almost 2.6 tons). Add to that the reported 200 dives (apparently) and over time, salt water and expansion/contraction may have created a fissure in the lay-up, possibly impacting the electrical system, and as a consequence, lost power.
I'm not suggesting this is the cause, simply a possibility, and it's not as though this craft has been designed/manufactured by an experienced company aka Airbus/Boeing in the aircraft industry and gone through a lengthy qualification and certification process. Going back in time, even Boeing had technical issues with the Dreamliner that uses similar CF technology.

My feeling from the start was that would be a Search and Recovery mission at some point.
Just based on previous underwater rescue “attempts”.
But these guys are straight up explorers from the old days so they’ll take it like men and I’m sure when the wills are announced the families will be happy.

I'm not privy to any information relating to manufacture of the 'tube' part, and CF technology is a generic term covering so many different materials/processes, but assuming a laminated lay-up (as assumed) you would need specialist equipment to inspect it, and there could be a core.

2m spheres of titanium are proven and regulated for those types of depths….but you’d not get 5 paying tourists in one.
Ergo they make it viable by creating disclaimers where each person signs their life away on payment and if they get lucky they return.

did anyone see the video floating about of the CEO Stockton Rush saying he didnt want to hire 50 year old white guys, and instead wanted a team who were younger and more inspirational.

Well as I said,to acey's horror,not much sympathy. Not to say I hope they die but I will be unmoved either way tbh. There are people dying all over the world who have not chosen to put themselves in hazardous conditions and in this case apparently for no scientific benefit.

The company that cobbles together other company’s tech in this Titan also build another smaller sub that is cleared to dive to greater pressures.

it baffles me in this day and age of technology that there cant be some kind of device saying exactly where it is, instead of being totally lost. or at least have some chord inside that when pulled would inflate and bring it to the surface.

Eye agree salmmy, there's defo been more tasteless, but perhaps nothing much colder.. Being wealthy and/or taking risks hardly means we shouldn't sympathise over that type of fate. IF it was known pond scum down there(known violent felons with any number of crimes against decent people) then fair enough, we could even be forgiven by any god for eating popcorn wishing we had a livestream from inside that little sub, but these people are NOT those types of worthless scum who present constant threat to the GP.
