David Egan on Decoration???

To manage to finish 4th on that horse and out of the payout markets was a work of art, what was he doing - he stopped riding at one point to not go to early and then never went into overdrive at all for the final 3f - Are these orders that they're riding to

Probably slightly off topic but a mate of mine only lays, doesn't bet to win and has a handful of jockeys he says always makes him money over time getting beat on shorties. James Doyle is one of his big winners and looking at the results today I see he got out of the frame on a shortie. Perhaps a lesson for us all regarding trends.

David Egan is certainly one for his shortlist.

This lad thinks its beneath him to ride out for places, that isnt the first time ive seen him notice he is moving well and then stop riding out and give a half hearted effort to obtain the best position going.

just watched it again. He was pulling double on the outside and stopped the momentum the horse was building up to not go to soon, he then coaxed the horse along and never committed the horse to tackle the 2nd, last 50 yards he stopped trying and gave up 3rd place.

it doesn't get any easier on the eye, His ride on looking after a horse for another day is up there with the ride on Central House by Dylan Hogan at Doncaster, never gave his mount a chance to win and happy to sit off the pace watching to coast in a untouched 4th

It's riding to owner or trainers orders, right?

I think Egan, like so many is massively overrated, and I am surprised that Varian who comes across as a sensible chap, puts up with him. Maybe it's a reflection of how little talent there is in the pool? Let's see what he gets up to on several fancied mounts at Royal Ascot this week. I wouldn't be at all confident he will get the job done on the likes of Sakheer and Jabaara who look to have strong chances.

As for today's ride I think that horse likely needs a strongly run 10f, or further. On that basis he had a poor track position in a slowly run race. Under a hands and heels ride the horse just lacked the pace to get on terms. Of course he should have tried harder for a place, but that happens all the time. The champion jock has no piers in that department. Unless the media start calling it out nothing will happen. So nothing will happen.

Watched replay a few times -he was whipping it and pushing it -don't see what more he could have done . Didn't look remotely like a non trier to me

Just reviewing the Ascot races there and noticed Egan wasn't on the Sheikh Obaid horses in the last two races, with Jack Mitchell wining on Royal Champion, and James Doyle on Postileo in the last while Egan took an outside ride.

But evidently no falling out as Egan is booked to ride Exoplanet for the owner on Thursday, a horse Varian gave a positive mention for on Luck On Sunday, particularly if the ground is on the quick side.
