Channing is a plastic marxist. Why would you give any credibility to what he has to say?
as someone who thinks that the Just Stop Oil protestors are heroes hmmm, the views of someone who thinks that groups that stop the working class from working are heroes, can safely be consigned to the recycle bin. |

For what it's worth, the way some humans treat some animals is far more morally questionable than humans using oil to improve their standard of living. I love horse racing and don't want it to be stopped, but the attrition rate of jump racing in particular is hard to defend from a moral standpoint. His upside down stance on this, ie there isn't another anti establishment/capitalism/Tory bandwagon he wouldn't want to leap on, is that he personally benefits from horse racing. ie an entirely biased and self centred position, not entirely surprising.

"If racing faces a battle for its survival in the future it won't be the one that it fights against Animal Rising. It will be against the millions of people that have no real opinion on the subject, most of whom have never been racing and many of whom may have never seen a horse."
and "If currently you are one of the people who think that strategically it's going to be a good idea to make it a battle between racing and a load of other groups of people that you don't personally agree with, then suddenly you are taking on millions of people and I think you'll regret it." |

I'm assuming Channing misses the point completely. Most of these freaks don't care deeply about animals, they are part of the 'movement' that is attacking our entire way of life. Attacking the derby and the GN are routes to get maximum exposure for minimal effort/risk.
You can't reason with them, you can't put forward good arguments. They don't care. |

the man who admires just stop oil but aeroplaned into the studio for Luck on Sunday a few weeks ago; used to have time for him but another double standard elitist
|
|
By:
Not just how he travelled, but he couldn't wait to let everyone know about it. Similar to some of the other champagne socialists that Luck likes to get on.
|

By:
Cider, you are missing Channing's point which is that Animal Rising is not the same as any of the other groups and it would be a grave mistake to lump them all together until they form a majority.
|

By:
I know what he is claiming, he is wrong.
They may or may not be led by the same individuals, and funded by the same sources. But their MO is exactly the same. Now if it was PETA he was referencing, that would be a completely different story. AR aren't trying to win hearts and minds, they are not utilizing clever tactics. They are not using intellectual arguments. They are saying if you don't stop what you are doing, we will wilfully break the law to stop you. |

Never understand how he gets the gig on Luck,he may be a great poker player or whatever but pro horse racing punter my backside, agree with Cider a plastic marxist, very rarely watch it when he is on,the other week Luck put a photo up on Twitter of them all in the prep room stating just ready to go chaps,Channing had a plain scruffy T shirt on as usual, then bothered to change it with some silly lefty message on for the show,a take out merchant.

To me Just Stop Oil and Animal Thingybob are indistinguishable. They have a single agenda: Just Stop Fun. They are miserable and have nothing to do, so you should be too.
There were a dozen of them standing silently outside Newton Abbot yesterday, holding placards and looking drained of life. Meanwhile families walked straight past to enjoy an afternoon in the sun. There really is an opening for a political movement with the slogan Make Britain Fun Again. |

Unfortunately, rational/normal/sensible voices are shouted down, screaming. Years of social engineering and battering have only left the public discourse open for the 'accepted' bbc / guardianista narrative. Anyone objecting to the accepted narrative is smeared as a loony toon, gammon, far right, racist, bigot, transphobe, climate denier, covid denier etc. I don't care what people think about me, so say what I believe anyway, most people aren't like that and find it's an easier life to stay quiet, or grudgingly nod along.
We do get the window occasionally opening when people feel like they can freely say what they actually think, without being smeared. Such as the rapist going to a female prison in Scotland. However, those occasions are very rare. |

The first major politician to sound the alert over climate change was Mrs Thatcher. It's not just BBC Guardianistas.
|
|
By:
Thatcher promoted global warming for the same reason the current generation do: self-inetrest. In here case as a tool with which to de-legitimize the striking miners; in the current case to de-legitimize capitalism (or 'freedom', as normal people call it).

Try again:
Thatcher promoted global warming for the same reason the current generation do: self-interest. In her case as a tool with which to de-legitimize the striking miners; in the current case to de-legitimize capitalism (or 'freedom', as normal people call it). |

There are completely different issues there Ramruma. Conflated deliberately.
The climate is changing for sure. It has for millions of years and will do for the next million. The hubris of anyone thinking that ending the use of gas boilers and diesel cars in England will do anything to affect the weather around the globe is beyond absurd. Even if those things wouldn't have a catastrophic impact on the working and lower to middle classes, which they obviously will. Because humans can't change the weather or climate (we can't) does not mean we should not use technology and development to mitigate the impacts of detrimental weather. If we will be short of water long term for example during summer months in this country, construct more reservoirs. Granted, that would mean that the civil service would have to do some tangible work, instead of attempting to scare people with warnings that it might be 28C in a few days, so it's rather unlikely. |
|
By:
Thatcher was alert to the dangers of climate change because she understood the science behind the greenhouse effect.
|
|
By:
Agreed we should build more reservoirs. It might be easier if we'd not sold off all the water companies to foreigners.
But we are getting a bit off-topic and WFM from what began as a discussion of anti-racing activists. |
|
By:
I listened to an actual expert on the water industry. It is quasi state run. The individual companies do whatever they are instructed to by the civil service. If they constructed reservoirs we would simply pay for it via the standing charge instead of general taxation (borrowing).
Personally I don't believe that anything that doesn't have genuine competition should be privatised. I would however love to see council services such as refuse collection privatised, and pay little or no council tax. |

"To me Just Stop Oil and Animal Thingybob are indistinguishable."
Good piece by Peter Scargill in yesterday's RP about Animal Rising, which included research into who funds them and who they are affiliated with, and is well worth a read. "It is not possible for racing to win over people thinking this way because they are not willing to engage in an argument based on logic and facts. Instead, they are using racing as a vehicle to promote their true agenda, which is to fundamentally alter the world's food production industry" Scargill wrote later in his piece: "According to the most recent accounts of Plant Based Campaigns Limited (formerly Animal Rebellion, the previous name of Animal Rising before its spring rebrand), the company had no reserves. According to Animal Rising, its funding comes through donations which are matched, up to a total of £500,000, by an unnamed figure. "The group is affiliated with Extinction Rebellion, which receives significant grants from the US-based Climate Emergency Fund (CEF), a charity backed by wealthy individuals including Aileen Getty, a member of the fabulously rich Getty oil family" |

I watched the luck program a few weeks ago when this channing bloke was on,giving his views of the gambling white paper.
Thought ok,will give you a go. Followed him on twitter. What a mistake that was, some of the sh!te he retweets, well he is now blocked. He reminds me of "Neil" off The Young Ones. But Neil had more dress sense. ![]() |

look at cider getting his kickers in a twist because he doesn't like channings politics, lol
|
|
By:
I don't like his politics/hypocrisy but that's a side point. The gist of his piece I believe is that the industry should be giving AR and AR's demands credibility, and that they are different to the other law breaking 'protest groups' that have recently popped up. Absolute baloney.

There is more to the weather than the greenhouse effect. There's the hydrological cycle and evaporative cooling for a start, which is why you cannot have runaway warming on a planet with water. Proof? The last 4.5 billion years.
But that's not going to get you put in charge of planning the economy (or bashing the miners). |
