...July Course had a lovely champagne lawn and bar just past the winning post. Very popular and a delightful place to sit. Those not too keen on racing could stand up and see the finish or watch on the screen close by. New development now. Paved over. Modernised. Additional floor. No head on stand. Re-named. Entry to "The Rose Terrace" is now yours for the very reasonable price of £170 (includes a plate of Spam and 1/2 bottle of Moet) on an "ordinary" day. £255 at the July Festival and £290............TWO HUNDRED AND NINETY POUNDS for the music nights. No lawn now. They already have 3 restaurants on the July Course. Now 4. barely a racecourse now. A "dining experience" and music venue with the odd horse to be glimpsed.

I stopped buying Programmes at Football matches - when they made them the newer Larger size - and charged much more, of course.
But the real reason was ............... They would no longer fit in your coat pocket.  |

Newmarket seemed to invent the Friday night concerts (stand to be corrected) and wrote about it many years ago in the RP,other courses obviously followed or concurred.
As said at the time "The core product in danger of becoming secondary",had thought though that the tide was turning in recent years? Recent visit to Yarmouth cost £28 for Premier stand and racecard,£6.79 for pint of San Miguel (Little choice btw) and only stayed for two races as was there for a different reason. Fair if not great value imo but as Donegal states,why the need for another restaurant at HQ when the others are hardly bursting at the seams outside of big meetings? Might be HQ of flat racing but the worst spectator experience of any track in the UK,something they know that racegoers do not in the future? |

I should also have pointed out that this is described as "an al fresco experience". So 4 people might shell out £1160 in the hope of enjoying their plates of (catering) ham/salami and 4 x 37.5ml bottles of Moet prior to glancing at a few nags and dancing to Tom Jones..... only to find it p*****g down all night. There are going to be an awful lot of annoyed people rocking up for a lovely Saturday summer afternoon sitting
on the lawn only to be informed by some slack-jawed security staff that they can't enter. |

Sounds like a "recipe" Donegal,hope and confident it will fail! Longchamp still great value since the revamp in comparison to any venue in UK so a far better proposition for even chavs to impress a Tracy or two including travel!!

Entry fees on their own are way too high and then having to pay for a programme.Other countries do not charge high entry fees,I used to go regularly in the 80s and 90s but would not pay their prices now,especially drinks and food.
