Much prefer the throwing of the donkey from the bell-tower myself.
Far quicker and humane. |

its not really fighting a bull though!!
Its killing a 4 to 6 year old bull, who is raised with minimal human contact,in a ritual manner. |

Nop no fight just gutless slaughter…..colourful swords, bull gasping and coughing and vomiting litres of blood….
Dreadful behaviour…..gutless people (imo) I bet the homes will be full of this skinny mob celebrating their cruelty… Ffs…. |

There are certain types out there who think beheading a human is ritual ffs….. |

One could have, at one time, been beheaded for repudiating the claims of one's monarch's insistence of forcefully taking the crown of our land yet even more heinous a crime of decrying his name in public or worse still, plotting a takeover.
London was once awash with the blood of beheadings - nay, a theatre of claret watched by a baying public moreover. |

formoftheace - you said "Has any of the media with brown nose ever challenged the person…..? Doubtful….career changing….ffs"
The answer is yes!! To quote you, with tedious regularity "Try Google", which in this case you apparently haven't. There are several interviews and articles in which Prescott outlines his affection for bullfighting - Racing Post, The Times, Daily Mail, The Oldie etc etc. |

But if your only gripe with Mark Prescott is that he likes bullfighting/coursing**** fighting then you have missed the whole point of why people are irked with Mark Prescott. Been irked with the trainer like most punters, never give his runners a glance…..more irked with his ‘hobbies’… |

By:
ok...
his hobbies are the hobbies of millions of Latino's. I've nothing against it. But lets keep it to the ponies and how he is able to run them with disregard for the handicap. He probably gets ring fenced a little though... I'm more of the school of thought that he wins handicaps with group horses. |
|
By:
Interesting post cacique, and a return to some relevance. I doubt he gets ring-fenced, his baronetcy is irrelevant in this day and age, and his methods are so well known to all of us AND more importantly to the handicapper to render any serious advantage. Given all this, his days of winning big handicaps with "group" horses are probably over, but I wouldn't put it past him to pull another one out of the bag.
I guess we can perhaps now have a decent debate on Prescott's horses going forward, since formoftheace is locked into "never giving his runners a glance" and seems more irked with his ‘hobbies’" |

Yes Blackbarn
But is it his "shrewdness" that gets bad horses to win good races, .. I don't think so. I think he wins races with horses that have been strangled for a handicap and if one of them happens to mature into a group horse then it more luck than design. |
|
By:
So the horse got beat then...?
![]() Not a great handicapping job this time from 'Sir' |
|
By:
I think the majority would agree that most of his two year olds are too big and backward to do themselves justice and need time to mature. I question the "strangled" for a handicap bit. He has two options with them, keep them at home and wait till they mature enough to do themselves justice on the track over a distance they are bred for or run them at two, when they have no chance of winning but will gain plenty race course experience and be given a mark so they can start in handicaps when they are a year older, rather than having to run in three maidens. I know what I would do !!.
He has loads of these types that never win a race, the majority having their first run at 3 are priced up on who he is because of his mo not on the horses ability, granted that is guesswork, yes some win and go on to clock up a sequence but imo the stick he gets is a bit OTT. |

These threads having a go at Prescott always leave me wondering why, if it's so easy, every trainer doesn't do the same.
Take the example of one of his horses that I saw win recently at Salisbury, True Legend. He ran three times in 7F novice stakes in Sep/Oct 2022 and got a handicap mark of 63. He made his handicap debut in a five runner class 6 hcp at Newcastle, won that, and carried a 6lb penalty to another win in a four runner class 5 at Salisbury. But what most people seem to overlook, is that the other runners in these class 5/6 handicaps, also had three runs down the field and got equally low handicap marks as a result. The second and third at Newcastle were trained by Dunlop (Ed) and Johnston, the second and third at Salisbury by Hannon and Watson. They're all operating in the same system, Prescott is just better at finding the right horses and getting them to win. |

By:
Spindrifter must have caught him by surprise and ruined his plot!!!
|
|
By:
TheAnorak - don't you think the difference is when looking at breeding often?
Prescott's runners are so often stamina-heavy in breeding, yet early on running over much shorter trips like 5 or 6 furlongs and getting a mark...ridiculous really to get a handicap mark for 1m6f by running over 5 or 6 furlongs, with a dam that stayed 3 miles over hurdles etc... Others do run for marks, of course, but his just seem so much more blatant looking at breeding and distances used..? |
|
By:
If he's supplied with big gangly awkward late developing types does he really have to run them at 2 to get a handicap to win at 3?
Why not let them mature and then run them as a 4 year old +. |
|
By:
Surely going to get a better mark(pardon the pun). If he waits till theyve matured going to be far more difficult to get an attractive mark.
|
|
By:
It's a no brainer under the present rules imho, to run them at 2, to get a mark and give them the experience of going to the races.
|
|
By:
As you say TD and not like he just started, anyone who moans or acts surprised must have lived on a different planet for decades. As well as Spindrifter I am sure he had at least one other prolific 2 year old run up a sequence.(Something Prince maybe)?
He changed tactics when there were fewer Conditions races to aim at if memory serves, though no guarantee it will tbh? |
|
By:
I always remember an interview Chapman had with Henry Cecil in which Henry stated that knowingly running a horse over the wrong trip was cheating and that was something he never knowingly would do himself.
|
|
By:
1 would be surprised if he didn't run his mile and four bred Derby horses, over 7f at 2
|
|
By:
Dealer - Make of this what you will, on a small sample. Two of Cecil's Derby winners did not run over less than 1 mile at 2. Commander in Cheif was unraced at 2. Oath ran over 6 and 7f at 2 but arguably was not Derby bred, more a mile and a quarter pedigree. He did of course stay!!
