It drifted from 20 to 140 then again from 40 to 130, layers desperate to win a few quid.

Indeed it did, as Hayden rightly says. However, onlooker's post at 17:47 reminds me of a report I read following a stewards' enquiry many years ago when it was recorded that "the stewards noted the trainer's explanation that there was no explanation for the improvement in form".
