I use to go to this meeting every year, it coincided  around my birthday.
it use to be packed, like all Sandown evening meetings, you could see the crowd snake across the course
from Esher station, all coming up from the city..
The last time i went, it was empty and lifeless, whats happened, apart from the extortionate prices they charge to get in and for food and beverages.?

Whitsun cup a shadow of what it use to ,however it looks a good national stakes and those going will see a derby winner

Whitsun - itself - is No more ...

Ever since the Lunatics moved - Whit Monday Bank Holiday  - BACK a week, to the last Monday in May - when there is also a Bank Holiday on the First Monday in May.

The most incomprehensible move I have ever seen - and Nobody has ever been able to explain to me just why they did it ...

What on Earth was the thinking and reasoning behind that decision?

Many of the horses who would have been entered to run in this race have been sold to Australia, US and the Middle East.
Report Whippin Piccadilly May 23, 2023 3:39 PM BST
For example, Soulcombe would have be an ideal type for this race.

Please forgive me for appearing daft Jimnast. I was in the UAE a "bus ride" away from the Empty Quarter of Saudi in those days! The BG was on the Tuesday night and then the Derby the following day. Was it a 4 day meeting at Epsom then or did they miss a day. The Oaks was on the Saturday? Hope all is well.
Report onlooker May 23, 2023 6:46 PM BST
Epsom was always a 4-Day meeting

1965 - when Sea-Bird Won The Derby

Woodcote (2yo) - Tuesday

Derby - on - Wednesday
Coronation Cup - Thursday
Oaks  - on - Friday
-----------

In 1970  - They  ditched Tuesday - and started to race on Saturday instead - and moved The Oaks
