I've heard pundits and trainers when praising jockeys say that "horses run for him/her" By making that distinction aren't the experts saying that horses don't run for some jocks?

Strange ride for me horse came 6th in guineas over a mile so got class and stamina above that level. If it was me I'd be having him up there not take a pull and drop him in last.

Nothing like Mulrennen ride, horse just not a sprinter, back to a mile next!!! Commonwealth Cup a pipedream based on that although must have show something at home to persuade the trainer otherwise?

The way people are talking this was on the bridle swinging & just btn as an unlucky loser. It wasn't on both counts. Shaquille much the best on the day.

I think you are missing point. It isn't about whether the horse who was best positioned was the best horse in the race. The thread is did Buick give an odds on shot any realistic chance of winning? Obviously, the answer is no.

Penzance don't think anyone is suggesting it was swinging on the bridle or defo would have won. Merely as the OP title suggests, and it is my view also that the horse had very little chance of winning from that positioning in the race and would have had to be something extraordinary to win from there.
Racing post says Held up in rear, ridden and headway 1f out, kept on final furlong (op 4/6 tchd 4/5)
Think by the time he really started asking, the bird had flown and no chance of catching a decent horse (which I'm not saying he would have definitely beat).

they know it has serious issues and tried it over 6f to see if it would settle over a shorter distance. I doubt if winning was ever the main part of the plan.

Think a big problem with the jockey's positioning was that it also meant yanking it back behind a wall of horses, which is clearly wasn't enjoying doing and ran free, being restrained. Let it stride on over that sprint trip was of course the answer. It might not have won, but would have gone close for sure.

So rather than the champion jock producing another duff ride, Godolphin were just taking the piss? If that was true then the sport is in a total mess if the biggest operation can just play silly buggers with an odds on shot early on a Saturday.

Not at all. They tried it at a mile and it didn't stay (or was not good enough) They put a huge noseband on to try to keep its head down and stop it pulling its chance away but that didn't work. Gelding or a tongue tie might help but I fear the horse has had enough of the game.

"they" didn't want it yesterday - it will win when they want it - it's not complicated - same as most racing but most of us are not in on the action - and why should we be ? are you paying the bills?
