Russian Rhythm was my person favourite.

Had a massive bet on her and watched the race in the Willian Hill across the road from Highbury.

And then about 10 minutes later I was taking my seat in the East Lower to watch us play Leicester to go the season unbeaten and collect the PL trophy.

A year ago I was in the area so decided to take a walk around Highbury and felt like crying. Everything I grew up with is gone now.

The presumed front runner in the 2003Lockinge was withdrawn just before the off.MJK made all -his opponents weren't expecting it and gave him a relatively easy time.It was the softest of Group 1's.

Would have won the Guineas by daylight without the worst big-race ride in my lifetime. Idiot boy kept him on the slower part of the track, was still strangling him after the winner had gone for home, and then challenged on the wrong side of his group. Still would have won in an other stride.

Broke the all age track record at Leopardstown as a 2yo.

Would have won the Derby by 12 lengths without High Chaparral in the field (despite not staying the last 2 furlongs), and was cantering for most of the race. Probably the best performance a miler has ever put up in the Derby.

Far from a one-race wonder.

Chinned in the 2000 by a worldy.

...but swap the jockeys and he'd have won by 3 at least.

The horse was good as well

to be fair, splitting into two groups in a classic is pretty unsatisfactory. not uncommon in that race of course, effectively got Kingman beat too (even though NOT ran most of the race in Kingman's group).

Gooner reel buddy winning the Sussex were very happy days,if I remember correctly I think it was a landmark win for pat edderry 50/1

i was married the day of his Lockinge win...seems a lifetime ago !!!!

The first Lockinge that I saw live was when Habitat won in 1969. Owned by Charles Engelhard and trained by Fulke J-Houghton and ridden by Ron Hutchinson. I went to Sandown in April when Habitat, making his debut, was made favourite for a race that would now be a listed. He finished sixth. He was then second at Windsor before winning at Haydock. He was a 3yo against older horses such as Jimmy Reppin at Newbury but still fairly well backed at 10/1 so I chanced a few pounds from my student funds. He won easily and went on to win the Prix Quincy and Moulin ending his only racing season as the Timeform top rated horse of the year. He went on to be my all time favourite sire.
