Presumably, no problem with their Summer holidays this year.
I had to chuckle when Hislop described the last race as 'tricky'. As if the rest of the meeting wasn't? Fortunately, I kept bets to a minimum, as I wouldn't have picked a single winner over the three days.
It goes to show it can be even more difficult to pick winners on quick ground than soft.

Years ago, it was almost a given that a horse needed its first run after a lay off of more than (say) 3 months . I don't think that is true for a majority of horses these days -except of course for the ones you back which the trainer after the race will say "It should come on for that".

Alot of trainers dont know what their charges are going to run like,just to make picking a winner even trickier.

used to get a 3 day Tatts ticket for the Dante meeting in the early 80s. Nothing changes - generally a bookies benefit. Good luck if you can pick the winner in a 16 runner handicap

Didn't have a winner all week - just plenty of near misses where the jockey challenged on the wrong side,
 TBH the entire flat season ever since the Lincoln has been a nightmare for me. Had big antepost position on Never Ending Story for the 1,000 but after impressing in her trial Aidan runs her on heavy going at Longchamp against the same horse who stuffed her in the Marcel Boussac. Given the horse she beat easily in her trial came 3rd at Newmarket she would have been placed at least imo.  Had a decent antepost bet on Mutasaabeq for the Bet365 Mile at Sandown which was abandoned - then didn't back it when it was rearranged at New'mkt. And my massive price Derby fancy San Antonio has done everything I wanted but again it looks like he won't be running.  |

There all 3 days and scraped a profit on Wednesday but lost next two to show a sizeable deficit on week.
I suspect it was tough to find winners because we had a lot of horses with preference for easier ground, which is what it was looking like at entry stages, running on ground that rapidly became quite fast. BUT, lets not forget how across the years, favourites still end up winning between 32% and 38% of races. Hence, after a very poor run for the jollies, it is likely to bounce back suddenly. Trouble is, I, like many others, will look at the results one evening and realise we have just missed 5 jollies our of 6 etc!!! unclepuncle...Yes, same for me since the Lincoln meeting. Just cannot quite get it right, non-runners, boxed-in, massive market drifters late on, I could go on. Secret is to cut back and bide time, but knowing when the tide has turned is an real art!! |

Had 2 bets at the meeting both tailed off, the footy is even worse could have done with Aberdeen winning and Leeds winning we all know what happened. Had some terrible years on the footy but this has been the worse laid 2 to go down the saints and Leeds, laid one in the Spanish guess who had one bogey in the prem you are correct. laid a double Man City pl and cl @9/2. Burnley was a Horrible result.We are off to the lakes for 5 days in the morning Windermere Marina nice gaff look it up. going to have a good long think about my betting, to tell you the honest truth i cant keep going the way the last couple of years have been my confidence is shot to bits.

how do you beat the standard times on fast ground coming over to the stands side,when in old days they kept to the far rail on fast ground
if there coming stand side on fast ground,whats the point in the far rail anymore,surely they wont go there now on any ground |

1st time poster...I'm glad someone else has noticed this trend. It seems to be happening at a number of tracks.
Two horses were killed at York last week and I am wondering if the policy of trying to produce totally safe ground (which has become an obsession) has now backfired. Too much watering has left the turf weak and without strong roots, so the top is being kicked off. At any track where there is even a slight incline to the far rail, the over watering will eventually produce an issue. Perhaps the jockeys know this and are steering away as a result? i'm only guessing but if it isn't ground related then the jockeys must be acting like sheep!! |
