You're totally guessing backing the front lot in the betting so if you're going to guess then guess big.

However that winner had ran already and in what usually is a informative maiden, u couldn’t expect that… that standside rail might well turn out to be the golden highway, because that was a remarkable improvement from run 1 to run 2

don't think so Tony. I reckon most judges looking at the horse would be pretty impressed. Be confident it was no fluke as the fav was very strongly fancied and ran well.  Obviously he showed next to nothing first run hence the price.

Agree with all that Tony but fact remains although you're guessing you're certainly guessing when backing any of the debutant horses including the 5/4 fav , guessing 5/4 shots plays havoc with the required strike rate to make it pay but guessing horses over say 25/1 allows you plenty of losers and stress free punting as guessing 5/4 shots can turn a punter into Mark Labbatt ( just ask stewartyb )

Regarding the favourite,they don’t usually geld a two yr old top horse,must have been some problems.
