This was my pick till I noticed that its trip had always been 7f with two shots at the mile ending nowhere. So I didn't. Wins at 20/1. Racing takes me a further inch towards the mental hospital.

Must say I couldn't see that winning given its best form was indeed at 7 furlongs, and on quicker ground too. Faded over a mile LTO on soft, having raced prominently. It probably needed the run following a short layoff, but then the horse had been pulled out of a race earlier in its career on account of soft ground, so it was reasonable to infer it'd probably be found out for stamina today.

Clearly not... ! Shocked

Traveled like a dream.

Scratching my head over it. Confused

Thought perhaps ground isn't riding that soft, but then BELHAVEN was 2nd.

One of the first I put a red line through on account of ground and trip... . Plain

I must ask, given that you subsequently noticed that its optimum trip had always been 7f, why FTS was your original pick.

Hoping to learn something. Happy

to be fair - it was 7lbs better off with the runner-up for whom was likely to be further ahead in fitness having had a run the last time they meet each other.

Looking back over her form, she was rated higher in the fairly recent past - 95 I think - so I suppose it was inevitable she'd eventually prove well handicapped off 84. Having said that, given she has a decent record fresh, I would've thought she'd have had a better chance at Nottingham than Ascot.

Shows how much I know ! Laugh
