Yes, I know, it's not the right forum to be asking, but since Chit Chat is no longer available I shall try here.
Been bugging me all day following a pub quiz.
Can anybody remember the film show shown on BBC 2 in the 1990s ( not 80s, I think ) with an intro' by a US film critic, whose first name may well have been Howard. He would give a brief critical overview of the film before it was shown.
I'm not thinking of Moviedrome. That was the quiz question ( it asked the name of the programme introduced by Alex Cox and Mark Cousins ).
I mentioned this other show to the table, and nobody remembered it, and I'll be b*ggered if I can remember the title.

Bluebook, this very thing used to bug me too,was on in the 80's, it would be late on Sat night and he would give a short overview of the film which would be a movie that wasnt quite mainstream. he had longish hair and quite a deepish voice but for the life of me i cant remember his name although his first name could of been Alex.

And here's a funny thing.
The long-haired chappy called Alexander is probably the legendary Alex Cox from Moviedrome, and one of his films is called Walker. |

Schuman was/is an interesting character. The man credited with scripting "Rock Follies" amongst other televison classics.

I heard that somewhere alun, Michael Robbins was a character as well, he had 2 kids with Esma Cannon, she was seeing him behind her husband Robert Mitchum's back.

Oh I don't know. Robbins was a notorious hardman himself, even getting in an episode of The Sweeney ("Big Brother") on the strength of his formidable reputation.

Mitchum never recovered from that time when Esme met Jimi Hendrix on that unforettable 1967 night at the Saville Theatre when he famously performed "Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" with a pick-up band of Robert Morley (alto saxophone), Wilfred Hyde Whte (drums) and Bud Flanagan (accordion). Jimi originally wanted them for The Experience but those guys were too busy with the casino tables and the miniskirted lovelys of Swinging London for that. Lust at first sight apparently for Jimi and Esme. Cyril Fletcher told me that story in a brothel in Asuncion where we were tax exiles. |

Little wonder that they became clothing mentors to the doomed Rolling Stone dandy Brian Jones, as I'm sure we will be seeing in the BBC 'Arena' documentary tomorrow evening. Mystery still of course surrounds his swimming pool death. Two names that have long been rumoured to have been there skinnydipping that fatal night, but their gangland connections made them too heavy for the local plod to interrogate : Wilfred Pickles and Arthur Askey. I know the truth of the matter but my lips are sealed. The great Terry-Thomas told me all about in a Valladolid brothel where we were working in the loft insulation game. |
