He's Dettori's agent now? Best place for him imo.

Don't think he's been Dettori's agent for a while now.

There is a difference between best jockey and champion jockey, with the latter depending on access to good horses and work ethic to charge round the country to take rides (especially back then). iirc Ray Cochrane regularly topped the Whitley jockey ratings.

After further thought i take it back, Cochrane was not second rate he was better than that.

After that plane accident, I'm sure they're both happy to wake up each morning alive.

I seem to remember a study carried out by someone or other during the Cochrane era who analyzed the performance of horses ridden by various jockeys. I don’t have any details to hand about how extensive or scientific that study was but it sticks in my mind that it was claimed that Ray came out top of the list in the improved performance of horses compared to other jockeys riding the same mounts. I think the measure was by about 7lbs on average. I may have some details wrong but that was the general thrust. Clearly it did not mean he was 7lbs better than Dettori but for example Frankie if ranked may have come out with a ranking of improving them by say 5lbs over Mr Average.
