I’ve never had an account with them so assumed it was more spam. It says there’s been a suspicious log-in attempt from Airdrie on a Linux device. I was just about to delete it when I noticed that the Twitter handle is my Betfair password. It’s 13 characters long and made up from personal details and numbers that mean something to me, but unlikely to mean anything to anyone else.

That's really weird,

Also checked Pwned to see if your email or Betfair password has been pwned

Have you ever had any connection with Airdrie?
Report s.kenbo May 10, 2023 3:46 PM BST
No, no connection to Aidrie at all. Think I may change my password just to be on the safe side.
Report sparrow May 10, 2023 3:47 PM BST
There was a login to your account from a new device on 10 May 2023. Review it now.

Every time for the past two years whenever I login to Twitter I get the message above, but no emails.

Twitter is full of spam and scam artists, tread carefully.

I'm 15 mins from Airdrie kenbo, if you need a door knocked Grin

I’ve just spent ten minutes typing and re typing a new password. Every one I tried wasn’t allowed even though I followed all the criteria. Why does thinking up passwords make you want to slit your wrists! It’s staying as it was!

Could it be that you’re the one logging in, Sparrow, hence why it always gives the date that you tried?
Report s.kenbo May 10, 2023 4:02 PM BST
Cheers, Dealer. We’ve already got a forum resident who willing to smash peoples back doors in though! Actually with his prowess on ISP addresses this situation will probably be resolved as soon as he reads it!

If you haven't already, set up two-factor authorisation on your Betfair account. Easy to set up, easy to log in still and should be secure even if your password has been compromised

Change your password on this account and anywhere else you have used the same password.  The only way someone tried to use your BF password as a Twitter handle is that your details have been compromised.  And since I doubt BF are security-unaware enough to store your password in plain text, I would think how that could be and consider what else has been exposed.

And yes, as others have said, enable 2FA on your account if you not already done so. Username/Password is not serious security if proper sums of money are involved.

I’ve just tried getting the two step authentication. Whether I try it through the website or the app the following message is always there ‘while the mobile page is being built, please visit the main site’.

I’m not wasting any more time on it today. Thanks to you all. Cool
Report longbridge May 10, 2023 4:36 PM BST
Odd.  I set it up years ago so no idea what/why that error is.

Sorry kenbo, but I don't get what you mean.    All I'm saying is that every day I get the notification that I logged in on this device and maybe I should change my password. This has been going on for two years but the site is very poorly run and nothing really surprises me on there.
Report s.kenbo May 10, 2023 4:47 PM BST
I didn’t explain what I meant very well, Sparrow. I’m still not sure that I can, but will give it another go!

I thought you meant that each time you logged into Twitter and got that message, maybe it was your log-in it was registering but from a device it didn’t know.
Report sparrow May 10, 2023 5:13 PM BST
Yes I think that was the case at the beginning kenbo but its now 3 years since I changed my device and even when I changed the password they still sent the messages! Trouble is these days there is no one to speak to as is the case with many such companies.

Is Betfair the only site where you can remember using this particular password, s.kenbo? Just so we can narrow down where the leak has occurred.

S.Kenbo maybe try downloading Lastpass if you're having issues and create an autogenerated password via this. (Saves all passwords).

Not sure you have all the facts here. IT IS AIRDRIE !

Personally I would go with the dealer and a bit of local knowledge LaughLaughLaugh

This is the only site I use that  password on, Screaming.

Will have a look at that, Arsenal. Thanks.

You’re in for a long night if you’re gonna spellcheck all my text, Mr Myx! Wink

That's worrying. I really would persist with activating 2fa, but I understand how frustrating it is when you get these incomprehensible messages.
Report DIE LINKE May 10, 2023 7:11 PM BST
do you use hotmail?
Report Trident May 11, 2023 9:33 AM BST
1: DO NOT use LastPass. They were recently compromised. https://www.wired.com/story/lastpass-engineer-breach-security-roundup/

2: Use unique, LONG passwords on every account.NEVER use the same password on any account/website. Turn ON two-Factor authentication EVERYWHERE. (If the service doesn't use 2FA, consider terminating that account.

3: Use Bitwarden to save and generate passwords, it's FREE. https://bitwarden.com/

4:Check here  https://haveibeenpwned.com/    for any passwords that may have leaked. Put in your email or mobile number and check

5: Passwordless future is here for Gmail Outlook etc, but it will take sometime.

If anyone wants help regarding online security, please message me, I'm happy to help.

If you do have Last Pass time to leave.
