Salisbury abandoned.....

Very surprising.

Races abandoned due to several areas of waterlogged ground after yesterday's heavy rain. The pleasant day forecast will unfortunately not be enough to make the track suitable for racing today.

Hope it’s not another example of heavy rain on top of watering

Never been jimnast,interesting? always looks a pleasant gaff on telly.

The view from the top of the stands is as good as anywhere sparrow but I find it very unfriendly and the crowd flow is poor around the back of the stands and around the paddock,

Track has a history of ground issues,remember Steve Cauthen experienced it early….

Cauthen rode his first winner in the UK Marquee Universal at Salisbury. It was televised on the BBC midweek if I remember rightly.

In those day Salisbury had both a 1000 and 2000 guineas trials day on a Saturday,your right about the great man’s first winner

Afraid I can’t remember the price I know he rode the 2000 guineas winner shortly after which returned 20/1 beat one of my all time favourites kris.

I forgive him very quickly still the only jockey I travelled to watch ride .

I remember that meeting at Salisbury and cursed myself for not backing the Barry Hills horse after changing my mind.

Marquee universals next race was in the greenham where he finished 3rd behind kris and young generation who later in the season went of 11/10 on in a match for the st James palace stakes at the royal meeting.

I think Twickenham was 2nd of Ian Baldings' in the Mellon colours.
