Great horse in 2021, but form fell off the edge of a cliff last year and even worse last time so very  easy to lay this today. Trainer talking tosh when saying he wouldn't run for the sake of it. This is for the sake of finding out if retirement beckons, which it sure does.

think it wins.  easy to draw a line through the newbury run, first run for almost a year on bottomless ground, could see a different horse this afternoon.  anything near its best it wins this half the track.

with you Hulk. Happy to give it one more chance having regard to the opposition. 5/2 is a decent reward for the risks involved.

"Last 2 runs have been shockers.
Can't be backed to he starts showing something again."     Is was pro gambler Phil Bull that said don't dismiss a horse after just one or two bad runs.

Fair play to Appleby , I was watching recording but before race he said he didnt know why the horse was drifting , he worked brilliantly on Monday and he wouldnt run him unless he thought he could win .

Maybe he was undercooked 1st time just like Native Trail was earlier today. Nevertheless, it was prudent to leave alone today. The $64k question is what has he beaten on his favoured ground eg softish?

As usual impossible, I have to correct you. I told you 3 years ago that you should listen to Charlie Appleby and you still don't. He told us yesterday that Hurricane Lane couldn't handle the ground at Newbury and that we shouldn't lose faith in him, "I haven't", he said. I wish he'd seen your "regression" remark! He also told us that he's a big horse and wants good ground! Shame they didn't interview him earlier, he'd have probably put us on Castle Way.

Trainers say a lot of things post an event eg Hendo about Shishkin when Shishkin bombed remarkably in 2022 Champion Chase. As for Appleby I can recall top horses that got injured, deteriorated or did not meet the Classic gigs eg Quorto, Emotionless to name two.

The run of Native Trail was bad. I believe something is amiss (physically) or undercooked (trainer's fault). In the old days trainers spoke with accuracy eg Sir Cecil/Harwood/Stoute; Appleby is ok nevertheless, I'd not take his words as gospel either. But, I'm glad Hurricane Lane ran a creditable race given his adversaries.
