Over the last 20 years, constant rule changes, tweaks in types of bets, have always seemed to be against the punter and for the bookie,
Fair enough, they just want to maximise profits, but where does it end,why creep in these tiny changes.
Just leave it be .

Things that have changed

E.D(equally divided on accas ,have disappeared, not sure you can even do this bet now, even if you write it on slip)
Exchange stopping multiple bets on racing and footy,(the day racing died).
Best odds guaranteed being phased out.

No doubt you can still do a Union Jack bet,9 horses, but could have 5 winners and collect nowt.

Anyone got any other examples of types of bets withdrawn,or and ones introduced that are an improvement.

Trouble with on a slip, staff won’t understand what it is,

I had one at Donny races 20 years ago when the bet was more popular,(it was in fact the default setting of all ew bets,ew used to be called, win to win ,place to place, they even changed that,)with the on course shop, the manager told me,we don’t do e.d. I said,it’s not a type of bet,it’s an instruction,I asked him ,do you do win,it’s just the same,an instruction ,not a type of bet.

Ronnie,it is better these days for punters for information, and maybe the exchange keeps you honest,

But my point was, every tweak is always against the punter, not an improvement to the system, that’s all,
If tweaking rules is to simplify bets etc,why are they always against the punter.

Bog
1st past the post and official result
money back if your horse finishes 2nd
free bet if your is beaten less than a length
footy if your team go 2 up will pay you out.
was never like that 20 years ago.

Hope you are well.

Very well,thanks for asking,

Valid points above, but tend to be sporadic,as offers, not the main rules, but that’s why I posted it,was wondering about tweaking rules, after reading the round robin thread lower down.

Thought the 2quid rule finnished the fobts, think footy is the main lure these days, all the young ones bet on the footy.

Better odds on course these days, with all the changes, small fields low odds,a lot of punters going back to the ring.,

Sad to say far from it the fobts are still the breadwinners took 50% more yesterday in the fobts than otc.

The young football punters are like the early morning punters ie the silver punters plenty of bets but no cash said before on here what the shops are missing are the 50 race to race punters very very few shops have them.

The racing punters have obviously gone on line,we went in the shop for the blower and no where else to go,
Not had a bet in a shop for years,10+ ,can’t remember ,

The banks have closed cos of on line, surely the shops will, hope they don’t though.

Fixed odds coupons
Used to be the case that the firms employed people to use their expertise to work out football match prices for the weekend , publish them midweek and stand by them
Nowadays, have an educated guess, then let the money guide you up or down
Cannot remember the last time I placed a footy bet where the price hadn't changed

The deteroriation in betting shop staffs knowledge of different types of bets or markets is sad, too many shop staff havent a clue about the mechanics of betting.
By:

When: 04 May 23 13:13
As Ronnie stated, never had it so good,3 places in 6/7 runner races, additional places in races of less than 12 ditto concessions to 10th place in some where the norm would have been 4 places 1/4,a fair deal for giving up a small fraction imo.

Not so long ago Big Mac was convinced bookies were going to go 1/6 odds for ew,think some did try it on course?

As for betting shop staff,no need to have the first clue about betting, checkabet settler last bastion of designated/trained settlers.
