I live a couple of miles down the road from him, absolute pos.

Add hare coursing to that, he is Lord of the manor you know. Bull fighting is very popular in Spain apparently, a test of skill, courage and madness imo.

POS = pile of shyte.

Although his love of racing comes through especially a documentary he did a few years ago about Newmarket and I find him an excellent trainer to read from betting pov. With his fearsome reputation, I'm fairly certain he would not be my cup of tea, even if he is an excellent raconteur.

A few on here @rgasm over him……ffs

Well I will recount a recent story that shows him in a  very favourable light and in a different league to most of his peers.

A few months  ago I had a horse staying at Newmarket equine hospital as an inpatient and when I went to collect it Sir Mark pulled up shortly after me and we had a natter and I asked him what he was there for, and he told me he had a runner go wrong at Lingfield and sadly there was nothing the vets could do for it.  So he had come to give it a pat and say goodbye.
The horse in question was only a lowly rated animal, but he had taken the time and trouble to go there to make sure it was comfortable in its last few hours.

Top marks to him.  There aren’t many trainers that find the time to go and say goodbye to every beast in their care before it gets put down.
Compare that to a fat Irish gypsy posing astride a dead un and they are worlds apart.  Pure class.

A decent man who genuinely loves and cares for all the horses in his care.  Unlike some trainers who trot out the oft repeated phrase “we love our horses” when the cameras are rolling.

Testament to how healthy he keeps his animals is how popular they've been at the Horses In Training sales down the years with buyers knowing they've not had every ounce of mental will and energy and screwed out of them.

Most of us love animals and certainly wouldn’t be cruel to them, the reason most of us detest bull fighting because it’s vomit inducing slaughter, goaded and cut then a knife through the head with the barbarian (imo) smiling and strutting

Ffs…

No fan of bull-fighting which I take to be a form of ritualised slaughter. Unsure of how much of the beef I eat is slaughtered humanely.

Re Sir Mark, not sure he is actually a fan of Greyhound Racing; he certainly wasn't. He was/is a fan of hare-coursing and even got fined for it. Whether you think hare-coursing is a valid sport or not, there is little doubt that it was banned because the government and most of the public thought that its raison d'etre was to kill the hare!.
Report sparrow April 20, 2023 11:50 AM BST
No not Greyhound Racing, but certainly Coursing.

back in the day, used to sell yearlings at Tatts, Sir Mark always came to see them, we gave him plenty of coffee and fruitcake to keep him onside, had this great big backward colt that nobody was interested in, as it was being sold at the end of the day he took pity on us and bought it for £4k.
he put it away for year and then won 6 races on the bounce with it.Happy

I can remember the days when The Waterloo Cup was perfectly respectable.
There's an old pit in a park near me which was supposedly used for bear-baiting. Times change I suppose.

I've never seen Sir Mark at say a greyhound Derby but definitely at coursing meetings, Suffolk & Norfolk areas. Stephen Little stood at the big tournaments back then as well. He was an absolute gent.
