Lydia Hislop is a good enough pundit, but never take much notice of her fancies. Although slightly better than Nick Luck Laugh

Got into a bit of spat with her some years ago, when I suggested jockeys needed to have good look at themselves the year about a third of the field had fallen or unseated before Bechers first time around.

Chapman was another one who said it can't win, giving several reasons why and upsetting Scudamore on the way.!

I trust Chapman laid the horse at 8/1.

I very much doubt Chapman has ever had a bet in his life sparrow.

The people that know the horse Lynda Russell and Peter Scudamore both said without any hesitation that it would win, not that it had a chance, or should run well, but that it would Win.

Very true Acey, but rarely does a trainer say their horse Will win, i ignored them as well.

Jockeys should have a good look at themselves this year too. They started way too fast, presumably riled up by the protestors.

I don't see how anyone can say a horse will win the National -so easy to be brought down, have a loose horse run in front (think it was McCoy on Don't Push It one year where that happened). Either a pundit gets it wrong from time to time or they don't ever have an opinion.

Quite a few pundits and tipsterers were victims of Groupthink.
Convinced each other that Corach would be too far off the pace to creep into a finish like he has been doing successfully.
All the same, it was given a beautiful ride. Was looking like Crisp for a moment or two, getting lonely in front and jinking its noddle but Fox had judged it all to perfection.

Winner ran off 146. After chelt win it’s new rating was 156,but weights for national were already done,
So it was officially 10lb well in. No one who understands racing could ever say it had no chance.
It was the best hcped ,sure to stay and fav,it dosent get much simpler in finding a winner,

Reckon the interview in the van differed slightly from that version , remember it as Luke asking them both an open ended question that invited a one word answer which went something like " In a word will it win "

The response invite was for a yes or no answer only , so a bit different from being bullish and telling people it WILL win.

Let's face it they were hardly going to say no.

Well done connections , it was a really good winner   Happy

Yes he did, talking very slowly and deliberate. Never been much good on that front, when he tried out as a BBC commentator was embarrassing.
