Fair play.
I'm told the Racing Post have an article asking whether a bookie should sponsor these races.
Surely the more pertinent question is whether the Racing Post should be in hock to bookmaker advertising.
For me, Betfred still offer an angle for profitable betting, so I am pleased they are doing well .
Go back thirty years and William Hill, Ladbrokes and Corals didn't even take Fred seriously as competition. Look at Hill's shop estate now - a sad demise. One had its door and windows smashed in with what looked like a shotgun but was probably a pool-cue. In winter. Come spring and the doors and windows are still taped over, pending a glazier. That shop has been in the William Hill estate for fifty years.

Well you have to scroll down about two feet for the shy author to make his point, longbridge, but I don't agree with it.
I see it as bookmakers putting something back. Lets get down to brass tacks: nobody wants to watch a horse race unless there is a bet on it..it doesn't matter how many "human qualities" you tack on to a racehorse, that's the nub. |

Bless the Guardian but it's a subject they know next to nothing about.
Watching the Derby without a flutter is like sitting in a pub with a soft drink. Last Saturday, Guardian tried to make a big thing about £2.5 m King Charles has made from selling orf His Mum's horses, so far. But what was he supposed to do, pretend he was as passionate about horseracing when , clearly, he is not? And Royal Ascot will never have that lustre again. |

They go together horse racing and bookies….let him sponsor he can more than afford it and it won’t make a jot of difference,the sheep will still follow him and punt merrily….

It would be interesting to compare, with the sponsors of biggest races in other countries, eg Melbourne Cup, France, South Africa, US, Japan etc
