I've just read the Richard Forristal piece in the RP about the apparent doping of the John Butler-trained Superseded at Chelmsford in March 2020. Kevin Blake has also written about this in his ATR blog.

Sent off at 7-2, Supersceded ran like a hairy old goat would, beaten 23 lengths in a five furlong race having never travelled. The stewards on the day ordered that the horse be dope tested and it came back positive for the sedative Azaperone, which can be prescribed by vets for pigs but is not licensed for use in horses (or humans). The amount given was described as "significant" by Butler's legal representative Rory MacNiece.
John Butler told the Nick Luck podcast that the BHA concluded from the evidence gathered that the substance was likely administered intravenously 60 - 90 minutes before the race, strongly suggesting Superseded was injected in the stable yard at Chelmsford, but the CCTV on the evening was not good enough to identify who accessed the horse's stable.
Are horses being 'nobbled' more than people might think?
There was the Viking Hoard case at Tramore in 2018. Also the two cases at Newcastle in the same year when Ladies First and Victoriano were "got at" and for which two stable yard maintenance staff were banned for 10 years after it was found they'd fed the horses a substance containing Timolol, a beta blocker.

There is clearly a case for upgrading stable cctv so that its images are usable (and btw how long is it kept for?). That can be done more or less immediately and should not cost too much. Extending post-race drug testing for all beaten horses below a certain SP would cost more (and do the labs have the capacity?).
The BHA should be lobbying the government in its review of gambling legislation for data to be shared so that "suspicious betting patterns" can be more easily identified, although good luck extending that to unlicensed layers.

They seem to forget,especially the people who are in the game for the love of horses……it’s cruel and dangerous….just a thought like…..
